This property opened in 1949 and was reportedly the first two-story motel in the United States. Cheap, very close to Haulover Beach, heated pool that is occasionally nude, ridiculously tight but free parking, and continental breakfast is included. Recently, they have switched to individually-wrapped pasteries which means your breakfast is a lot more likely to be edible.
No nuiscance add-ons for things like safes and resort fees . Good selection of cable channels. Only hotel I've ever stayed at that collects a (cash) deposit for the room key and telephone but they do give it back when you check out. No automated reservation systems here! Your reservation is recorded by a piece of tape on a calendar on the wall and every receipt is hand-written.
Not fancy, but reasonably clean and did I mention that it's the closest hotel to Haulover's C/O Beach?
For an interesting experience, have a chat with Robert on the hotel staff.
Couple of things to be aware of. This area of North Miami Beach used to be all mom and pop hotels but has been taken over by condo developers. This is the last mom-and-pop left in the immediate area. The property to the north is now the site of 40+ story Trump Tower III currently under construction:
Immediately to the south, the 50+ story Solis Sunny Isles Residences is also under construction:
Construction starts promptly at 7:00am during the week. You won't be able to sleep in. But, did I mention that it's the closest hotel to Haulover's C/O beach? Visit the Ocean Market just down Collins, pack a cooler of beer, and head down the beach. You won't be disappointed!
There aren't a lot of restauarants in easy walking distance. But, there is fairly frequent bus service along Collins and a wide selection of restaurants can be found a mile or so north. The pizza delivery guys will also deliver here.
Recent reports are that the OP will be replaced by a 42 story Chi condomininium. As of this writing, the owner indicated that it might be another couple of years. We certainly hope so.
If you want amentities, stay somewhere else. But, for a short visit to Haulover, this is a great place to stay.
