“Our favortie place to stay on Captiva!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

My husband and I have been staying here since 2001 and absolutely love this place! The rooms are updated and clean. You literally step out your front door and you're in the sand. The property sits underneath some gorgeous large Australian pines that give you shade throughout the day. The kitchens are well appointed and the bathrooms are clean. If you have never been to Captiva before, you need to know that these are some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida. Jensen's on the Gulf is situated in a mostly residential area so there are no crowds. Most often the only people you will see on the beach are the other guests at the resort. If your looking for rest and relaxation away from it all, this is the place for you. Make sure you stop at the Publix on the mainland before heading over the Sanibel causeway. Grocery shopping on the island is very limited and very expensive! There is a general store a couple of miles north of Jensen's but they are very limited. They have beer, ice, bread and eggs. Don't count on anything else. There are a few places to eat around Captiva. A few of our favorites are The Mucky Duck, The original Lazy Flamingo (on the Causeway just as you approach the bridge into Captiva from Sanibel) and The Bubble Room. DON'T FORGET YOUR BUG SPRAY!! The no-see-ums are relentless here!! You cannot step outside from dusk till dawn without bug spray! You will get eaten alive by them! Their bites are bad and the effects will stay with you for a couple of weeks.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 2nd story of the condo unit have great big balconies and great views of the Gulf.

“Perfect Stay,,Great Host's”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2013

Not a five star hotel,,but a great place to just relax , meet the owners,,lots of great old style accommodations ,,but on the inside ,,they are totally updated and comfortable, WI-FI and great cell reception,, very comfortable beds and shower,, and the location and the service was unbeatable,,locked ourselves out ...after hours ,,made a call ,and a real person answered !! ...5 minutes later one of the owners ( Dave ) was there !!! on his bicycle ,,,, Rented a boat from the same people ,,played with dolphins for hours ...then got stuck in a storm and ran a ground ..on an out going tide !! ,, They came right out and towed us off ,,,,then insisted on charging me half price for the boat rental,,,Geez..I felt guilty,,, Off the beatin path,,,but a very short walk to great food and nightlife ,,And right on the beach,,, I met plenty of the staff and they were all smiles...just a great place !!! and Captiva is Florida's best !!!!!

“Jensen's on the Gulf”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

We stayed at the PO Box about 18 months ago and fell in love with Captiva. The Jensen's could not have been more helpful and really made us feel welcome. The room was lovely and very homely - the furnishings are beautiful and the bed comfortable. It's just a few steps away from the beach which was quiet and peaceful. Sunset on Captiva is a big attraction and you will find most people go down to the beach to see it - look out for the dolphins too - they play around in the late afternoon. Manatees can be seen at Jensen's Marina especially during the summer months although we saw them in December too - apparently there is a warm spring by the marina that attracts them.
The wildlife is a big attraction for us - the birds and their antics never fail to make me smile. Don't miss Ding Darling or the Kayak tour on Sanibel. My new favourite thing is fishing which was great fun (just speak to the Jensen's they have a great fishing guide called Shaun) we even caught our supper first time out! Suffice to say I almost didn't put a review on here because I wanted to keep Captiva a secret - we have been back twice since our first visit......

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We rented Beach Nest for a few days in Feb 2012. It was our first trip to Florida and it was a perfect holiday. Beach Nest was very comfortable and the interior decor was beautiful ! Very close to the beach which has lots of shells. Overall wonderful experience. Totally worth the money. Highly recommended !

“The best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

We stayed for a week in the Honeymoon Suite. It was extremely comfortable and convenient to the Village. The beach was uncrowded and wonderful. The screened porch made sunrises and sunsets all the better! Room is on the 3rd floor which afforded spectacular views of the gulf, pelicans, dolphin and just everything on the beach, but if you have any problem with stairs this would not be for you. The small "kitchen" is well equipped with a microwave, fridge (larger than the typical hotel room fridge), coffee pot & toaster; dishes and utensils for two; coffee mugs, wine glasses and a couple tumblers. There is a small TV but it isn't really needed! Too much going on outside the windows! Was wonderful to wake in the morning and lie in bed and watch the sun rise while having that first cup of coffee. Breakfast on the porch while deciding what part of the beach to visit that day and watching the morning bird feeding frenzy! It was an extremely relaxing experience. There is no maid service but I don't have that at home either so it made it feel all the more like it was "my" place! The staff is there when, and if, you need them but pleasantly absent most of the time. There is a laundry room and use of washers and dryers is free - even provide the soap! The grounds are well kept. We throughly enjoyed our stay and would love to go back. It isn't cheap but it is very nice and when compared to other places that are right on the beach, its a bargin!!! You won't be sorry!

Room Tip: Rooms away from the street are probably quieter but there isn't that much noise routinely on Cap...
