We at at the Key Lime Bistro twice this week. The first time, we were outside. The entertainment was great, and it was a beautiful evening. This helped with my impression of the restaurant. When I look back, though, for two children's meals, a pasta main, and an appetizer for the fourth main course, we spent over $140 (includes wine).
We returned a second time because there was a wait at the other restaurants; it was raining, so we opted for the no-wait option. This time, we ate inside at a booth. From here, we could see inside the kitchen as the wait staff went in and out...the kitchen generally looked grimy (food on the floor), the doors were visibly dirty from being kicked open by wait staff. The kids had pasta entrées from the kids' menu - $14 for penne and tomato sauce. The crab cakes tasted as though they'd been frozen. Both nights the "bread while you wait" was actually what appeared to be a processed, creamy, orange "scoop" of cheese with crackers and grapes...pretty unusual and not so yummy. The key lime pie was good, but why all the whipped cream and the mystery sauce it was sitting in? Overall, the highlight both nights was the entertainment.
This is an amazing location, but...I think they may be counting on the fact that there aren't enough restaurants to keep up with demand, so they get by with mediocre food at an inflated price. Overall, I'm feeling pretty silly for having returned a second time - I should have waited to eat elsewhere.
