“It was great and exceeded my expectations.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2012 via mobile

When we pulled up, our first impression was,"Is this the right place?" At this restaurant most the tables are outside, and we sat outside. I got the chicken, and it tasted great breaded in corn flakes. It was a great little hole in the wall, and a great lunch I will forget.

“Limited seating and parking, good seafood, great salads”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012

Casual dining (most tables are outdoors on a porch), but it is charming. Seating is limited (fewer than 20 tables, as I recall). Parking is also a challege. We found it best to park around the corner in South Seas' strip mall and walk (with a flash light). It is worth the effort.
We ate at the Sunshine Seafood cafe twice and both nights our salads were delicious! Fresh, interesting, just yummy. Three of four entrees, all seafood, were very good. One was good (too much pasta, not enough shrimp).

Our waiter the first night was excellent, our waitress the second night was okay. The wine list isn't long but we were very happy with both the Steele chardonnay and the cabernet sauvignon that were recommended to us.

We'll go again if we're in the area and there's a table available.

“A changed place...and not for the good."”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2012

First, it's great to have such a convenient location when you're staying on Captiva. It's also nice to have a place that takes reservations. And we had a really nice meal here in 2011. I can repeat the first two compliiments for this year, but unfortunately the food was mediocre and disappointing when we ate there ten days ago. The "rare" yellow fin tuna arrived medium-well, the "medium-rare" steak arrived in a state of gray, and the red snapper picatta was smothered in cornmeal rather than "dusted." Those of us who ordered the house salad liked them, but the two caesar salads were swimming in dressing and soggy Romaine. Either the chef had an off-night (possible), or they've stepped down their game (regrettable). The one positive note is that we had a very pleasant and professional server who we all enjoyed. I wish the food had been a match to the caliber of his personality!

“Best we had”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012 via mobile

Our family stayed at south seas resort on Captiva and had dinner at most restaurants on Captiva. We had great dinners within south seas but found the restaurants outside of the resort to be more fun, and of the vacation atmosphere, not a banquet hall! This is my first post to tripadvisor, I usually do not do these things but this site actually helped us find great things to do with ourselves each night, so here it goes:
After reading reviews, we asked the concierge about this place, she recommended it and also followed through with a reservation for us, thumbs up! Good thing we had reservations because this place is small, literally just a patio...and they were packed. Service was prompt and personable, and the food ws delicious. I had cobia, never heard of it, but it was a fresh catch special and tasted great. My wife had the other special which was grouper. We will be back maybe next year, there was nothing that competes with fresh fish, good wine and happy people. Thanks.

“Our absolute Captiva Island favorite! And they take reservations!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 5, 2012

We have been enjoying Sunshine Seafood Cafe for many years and eat there every single time we come to Captiva. We have never, ever been disappointed with the food. The selection of delicious seafood is exceptional and there are items on the menu available for those who don't care for fish including a great wood-smoked filet mignon and other wonderful entrees. We always call ahead to reserve an outdoor table which is lovely even if it is rainy. On our most recent visit, I suspect that they were short a waitress as we only saw two the entire evening and they were definitely harried which resulted in slower service than usual and a couple of knocked over water glasses as empty dishes were hastily removed. But things happen and Sunshine Seafood still gets five stars for excellence!
