My husband and I wandered upon Twin Palms, after leaving behind the stuffiness, and ridiculous prices of staying at the Ritz Carlton in Naples for 3 nights. It was EXACTLY what we needed. The owners (brothers) gave us a warm welcome, a great little cottage, immaculately clean, (the Ritz was boot-worn, even after a so-called rehab), and incredible good value. We are trying to get back again this November, but our plans may not allow us to. One thing we know for certain... it's not a matter of if we return...only of when. Please don't let the "starter mansions and castles" building up all around you, change the overall flavor of Twin Palms. I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, left in '84 and headed west. We live in WA. state, and I still have family in Ft.Laud, but have told them if they want to see us they either have to come to Washington, or meet us at Twin Palms. Your little resort is vanishing America...keep up the good work.
My husband and I recently returned from a 5 day stay at Jensen's Twin Palms and Marina. We had been referred there by our neighbor who has been going there for years. We stayed in a one bedroom cottage. It had a large room with a very comfortable king size bed, along with 2 comfortable sitting chairs in front of the TV. The fully stocked small kitchen had a small table with 2 chairs. The bathroom was small with a shower only - no tub. The cottage had a screened in porch as well with 2 deck chairs and a picnic table. Everything was very neat and clean and we loved the laid back atmosphere. We brought our boat and were able to dock it at the marina right on the property. There were several resident manatees who hung around the marina and we saw porpoises every day as well. The staff were always very helpful and accommodating with anything we needed. We did lots of fishing during the day and found the location to be perfect. In the evenings we walked to the local restaurants, most were only a block away. We enjoyed The Mucky Duck, RC Otter's, Captiva Cantina as well as the Bubble Room (AWESOME DESSERTS). There were several others we didn't have time to try, but heard they were excellent as well - Key Lime Bistro and the Green Flash. Will try those next time. This was our first trip to Captiva, but will definitely not be our last! The water is a beautiful aqua green / blue and the fish are plentiful! There is a $6 toll to get on the island ($9 if you are pulling a boat). I'd suggest that you bring whatever drinks and snacks you are going to want while there, as the little food stores (and they are few and far between) are very pricey. We were told that during the high season (December - April) things are very busy, but we found the month of May to be delightful and a little slower paced.
We stayed at Twin palms and had a great time. Sunrise there, a short walk in the afternoon for sunset by Mucky Duck. Jimmy, John, and Dave are excellent hosts. Always have a smile and time to talk. Jimmy is in a band called The Trouble Starters, if you get a chance see them do so. Everything is so close too. DIning at R. C. Otters or Keylime Bistro are fun places to go, outdoor dining with live music. We saw Pat McCune and Chris Workman, both very good. We were able to see many types of birds up close on the dock as well as Manatee swimming right there. Great photo ops! We enjoyed everything about the place, just book early. We tried to book for "07" Spring early in "06" and they were full. Ended up booking on Sanibel but we will definitely go visit the Jensens! Go and you will enjoy!
My husband and I just returned from Jensen's on the Gulf on Captiva. We were there for 4 nights. There are no recent reviews on Jensens so we felt we must give our review so others know what a nice place this is to vacation. We stayed on the Gulf side and had a room on the top flooor of one of their small buildings. They have about 10 units. Some of the units are small cottages and where we stayed was a small building. Our room was more like a condo. It was hugh with large living/dining room, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and large screened in paito. The rooms are decorated very nicely in what looks like Tommy Bahamma furniture. The view is fabulous - right on the water. At night you can see the sunsets right from your patio. The bed is comfortable. Also Jensens is clean, clean, clean!!!. The staff is friendly and accomodating. You can go from your room and swim right in the gulf. There are no daily cleaning services. They give you your towels, sheets and pillows to use for the duration of your stay. We did get extra towels and pillows. There are washing machines on the premises. There are beach chairs for your use. 1/2 a mile down the road is Jensens Marina which also has cottages. Not sure how those are but the Marina is nice. You can fish right off the pier or you can rent a boat at the Marina. We were able to also see the Manatees right from the pier. Jensens is owned by a family and all the brothers are friendly and accomodating. We would highly recommend staying at this resort. It is quiet, relaxing and romantic even with some young kids that were staying there. It is in walking distance to some restaurants but you must be careful walking at night as the road curves and there are no sidewaks. You must also be careful leaving Jensens as the entrance and exit are right on the curve in the road.
PS. There are showers outside to wash off the sand and buckets to wash your feet. Also there is no swimming pool there. We would definitely come back and stay here again. It is one of the nicest and relaxing places we have ever stayed at. Our only problem was we did not stay long enough.
