“Totally met our expectations”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

We had a great time at this resort from the beginning stages of planning. We stayed in one of the Bayside Villas on the gulf side of the island. We arrived early into town after a long trip and the staff was able to place us in before check in. We were relieved as we didn't want to have to kill time waiting for the villa to be ready. Being in the off season the resort was quiet but that was great for our friends and family as it was a very relaxing vacation. The resort is a bit spread out but we decided to walk as much as possible while we were there. There was a trolley available and certainly was nice when the kids were tired. The marina was great as we saw a number of manatees and pelicans. We didn't get to do as much as we wanted at the resort but we did enjoy ourselves in our villa and down by the pools. Captiva Island is a great place to vacation and this resort was a lot of fun to experience.

Just returned from a one night stay at South Seas with friends! We stayed in a 3 bedroom bayside villa and loved it. Everything about this resort is great and I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone traveling to Captiva!!

I have to admit - after reading the mixed reviews, I was skeptical. We spent four nights at a Land's End three-bedroom villa, and it was well appointed with modern appliances, nice bathrooms and great views of the gulf. Some overall thoughts:

Rooming:
Lands End is literally at the end of the resort. Defintately the most private, but a 5-10 minute hike to the main pool complex. Make sure to get a key from the front desk for the private Land's End pool when you check in, if you are going to stay there.

Dining:
Food was remarkably good. As a NYC foodie, I was really skeptical about the options but actually was pleasantly suprised. We ate Harbourside for dinner on our first night and the fish was fresh and tasty, the Point for lunch (it's steps away from the pool) for burgers/salads throughout our stay, and ate off-campus for the rest. Service was attentive and available. The ships store for breakfast and coffee - Starbucks is just outside the entrance, and more expensive then NYC!

Pools/Beach - great complex and great for kids. Three distinct options for all ages. Beach is easily accessable, drinks/lunch at Sunset beach including rentals. Very easy, with service for chairs, umbrellas, etc.

But all was not perfect - here are some of the lowlights, if you can even call them that:
Attention to detail and follow through not the best - when we arrived at our villa, there were 8 light bulbs that were out, one of the porch doors was broken, a closet door was off the track, screens in the screen doors were also ripped. We brought all of it to the resort's attention - only the broken, impassable porch door was fixed during our stay. And then there were the "noseeums." MAKE SURE TO BRING Avon's Skin So Soft and Afterbite to alleviate the constant threat at night, and at times, during the day.

Some notes for your stay:
Rent a golfcart - the resort is expansive, and there is about a mile inbetween the entrance and the main part of the resort. Yes, there is a shuttle bus, but it runs :15 and :45 after the hour. All kinds of bikes are available to rent, so if so inclined - do! Great tennis courts everywhere and the golf, though a short course, was in great condition - not a serious round but a fun one. Water sports abound too. Oh, and the Publix near the airport is excellent for shopping before getting to the resort.

Room Tip: Do a walkthrough before committing. We didn't but, Land's End is so far away, we didn't...

My wife and I chose this resort as a stay for a business trip. The local Florida residents recommended it for our meeting.

The resort is very spread out and about the only way to get around is with the trolley that runs on the property. The main restaurant is very spartan with a bland, unexciting menu. The service was quite poor as well.

The beach and pool areas were probaly the most dissapointing part of the resort. The pools were very crowded. You could not enter and move around without bumping into somenone. Even worse was the beach. You had to wade through a cess pool littered with trash and cigarrete butts to get to the sand near the ocean. It was very unsanitary.

I am not sure what the locals see in this place. Perhaps they have not traveled much.

Dear Yesyes77,
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay from July. I apologize that you did not find the offerings at the restaurant up to standard. The culinary team is always looking at our guest comments and will be sure to address the issue. As for the beach area we did suffer some extensive beach erosion from Tropical Storm Debby which we had limited ability to repair due to state and federal restriction on scraping and filling on the beach. The good news is that Mother Nature repaired the damage that she caused and the beach is back. I do hope that you would give the resort a second chance and I am sure you would see why the locals love it so much.

I just returned from a one night, two day stay at the resort. When planning the trip my friends and I were so excited about South Seas and the wonderful things we had heard from friends. Upon arrival the staff were very courteous and helpful. Our three bedroom bayside villa was perfect in every way. It was very clean, had it's own pool and was just a short walk to the beach where we witnessed a breathtaking sunset. We spent the majority of our time at the main pool where we relaxed in a cabana, enjoyed drinks and lunch on both days, and even were lucky enough to catch some dolphins pass by. The service was superb. Our pool attendant, Kristen, was so friendly and checked in on us often but no so much that it was annoying. We enjoyed dinner at the Harborside Restaurant where we had fresh stone crab. It was delicious! The property itself was very clean. While walking around the marina we were lucky enough to see some manatees hanging out in the shallow water. We could not have asked for a better resort that had everything my friends and I were looking for. Next time I will be staying for more than one night!

Just got back from a "destination wedding" held at the South Seas and while the place was nice not really sure it was worth the money. We had a very nice room overlooking the marina, furnishings were nice, beds fairly comfortable. Tub didn't drain very well but wasn't worth complaining about. I suppose had we used the pool, golf course, or other facilities we might give a more positive review. The biggest complaint was the mandatory $15 per person, per day fee tacked on to the room rate. This has to be the lowest scheme for making money I can think of. If they need the extra money, raise the rates rather than hitting you with it when you check in.

Room Tip: Overlooking the marina was very nice. Definitely stay on the north end of the resort as it is a ver...

I recently spent 1 night and 2 days at South Seas and there was not a thing not to love about it! I was on a getaway with 5 other women. We stayed in a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom Harborside Villa. The villa was great in every way. It was clean and had everything that we needed and the view was the best. We spent both days at the main pool which was very nice. We participated in the Crab Races which were just one of the many activities offered. We used a Cabana both days which I would highly recommend! We stopped in at the Sea School and enjoyed it very much! The two young people working were very nice and informative. We saw Manatee, Dolphin and a great sunset and sunrise. Dinner at The Harborside Restaurant (Stone Crab) was wonderful including the service. Any staff that we encounterd were helpful and very friendly. As you can see I loved everything about South Seas and will definitely go back.
