“fishing was good. catching tough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

Our experience was like another where we fished a day after a front went through. Captain John was great at trying to move locations and baits. We did catch some smaller fish, but only one keeper. John was a good guide and friendly. Boat was older but clean and in good shape. Really enjoyed being on the water on a sunny day. Would love to try again on a more favorable day.

“Fishing, Shelling, and Dolphins!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2014

Over the MLK holiday, my fiance and I booked a charter with Captain John Houston. Our time with him was amazing! We started the day out fishing and caught enough fish to cover lunch and dinner. His knowledge is astounding! From knowing what fish will be caught and where, to where to find the best shells and what type of shell you have found. His 30 plus years of living and working on the island was shown throughout the trip. We saw a ton of birds, including a Bald Eagle. He even caught my hat in mid air as it flew off my head. Near the end of our trip, Captain John spotted some dolphins and made a couple trips by them. The Dolphins began to play in the boat wake, jumping out of the water and "riding the wake". It was absolutely amazing! If you are visiting the Sanibel/Captivia area, you have to book a trip with Captain John!

“Well worth the time and money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2014 via mobile

Captain John Houston took us on a great fishing charter. No excuses from him. If we weren't catching fish, he took us someplace we would. On board were ages from 15-69, including a fisher woman who had never caught a fish. John changed all that. Twenty catches later, the entire crew was smiling and we had a delicious dinner of trout John cleaned and filleted. He was full of energy at 8am, provided habitat and interesting info on the local birds, and worthwhile restaurant recs. Truly a native to the SW Florida area. Don't be fooled by other reviews, he's the real deal.

“Dolphins, eagles and shells oh my!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

We chose this excursion because of all the great reviews. We were not disappointed. Captain John made this trip memorable and catered it to our tastes. We had a bird lover on the boat and he was able to show us eagles, cranes, pelicans, and egrets among others. He also took us to an area where there were at least half a dozen dolphins playing and chasing prey. They came right up to the boat! Captain John was very knowledgeable and had all sorts of information regarding the wildlife, plants and homes on the island. We even saw a shark being caught by some locals. It was fun to see Hank the dog get so excited about the shark and then the shark being released again. The highlight for me though was when he took us to an island and lead us to path that ended on the beach and there right under our feet were thousands of shells. I have to say he has an eye for spotting wildlife but he is amazing at shelling. I think he must have seen me struggling to pick the right shells and brought over the most beautiful shells I have ever seen on a beach. Thanks captain John for a wonderful trip!

“Makes fishing fun!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

Highlight of our trip according to my kids (7 year old AND 11 year old daughter). Even in the rain! Capt John was a good and patient teacher and was wise to bring us somewhere the fish would more easily bite (this was a catch & release outing) in the beginning. Flexible and accommodating. Highly recommend!
