After reading all the great reviews for this restaurant, my husband and I decided to give it a try. I had to wonder if we had visited the correct place. Although the place is very small, we were seated right away. There is limited space between tables, and It was very loud the evening we were there - really too loud for comfort. Both of us tried steaks. My husband liked his reporting that it had a different flavor from any he had tried before. My own steak was "chewy" with a lot of gristle - far too much for the price. And - no, it was not overcooked - just tough. The rice accompanying it was average. I have to say that I have enjoyed much better meals at half the cost. The service was good and servers were quite pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. However, I doubt that we will return.

Our Thai style chicken tapas arrived quickly, following the reasonably priced Fairview Sauvign Blanc. Presentation was superior, with what seemed like a dozen ingredients and a world of taste. Our orzo paella was a great dining experience, followed by a coconut key lime tart that was both light and tangy. Even the tossed salad was special!

This is a fine dining experience which we hope to do again. But if you are seated against the wall on one of the long booth-style benches, be careful. My wife was seated at a place where there was a two or three foot gap in the seat, and tripped when getting up to leave. She tried to catch herself on what would have ordinarily been seating, but her hand hit only air and she had a bad fall against the next bench. X-rays at the hospital the next morning showed no broken ribs, but she agrees with the doctor that a bruised chest can be more painful than a broken rib. We did not complain to management about the situation because the pain did not become apparent until the middle of the night; hopefully such an occurrence is rare and will be addressed.

“Mobbed but Food and Service Excellent”

Memorial Day weekend resulted in a very large crowd at the inconspicuous Spanish River Grill. In a small corner of a shopping center, you would not expect to find such excellent service and food. We accepted an outdoor table to avoid the 30 minute wait. The filet mignon I ordered was cooked perfectly and my companions' fresh fish were reported by them to be amazing. The tab for 3 with tip was $100.

It is worth your time to locate this unique extremely well run establishment where many of the patrons appeared to be regulars.

“Spanish Seafood -- Worth the Trip!!”

We visited this restaurant in March 2008. Staying in Daytona Beach Shores, and bored of all the restaurants there, we made the half hour trip to New Smyrna Beach to have dinner at the Spanish River Grill. Let me tell you, it was worth the trip!!

Let's start by saying, this is a fairly expensive place, so you will want to save this for a special night out. Come early because this place is small and popular with locals. The restaurant is tucked in the far left corner of the Publix Shopping Center, which is on the right after you come over the South Causeway into NSB.

Despite its location in a strip shopping center, the restaurant is classy inside, dimly lit, tables have white tablecloths and candles, and the dark red painted walls are adorned with posters of bullfighters. Service is excellent. We started with drinks (offerings include sangria and Spanish wines) and a selection of appetizers from the tapas menu. I had the halibut ceviche which was flavored with fresh cilantro. Delicious!! Others in our party had the fried calamari, mussels, and empanadas. I really liked the calamari, so spicy and salty. I also had a taste of the mussels which were soft and tender, bathed in a creamy sauce. My daughter would only let me have one, they were so good.

For main courses, we had yuca crusted mahi-mahi (tender and juicy on the inside crunchy on the outside), portuguese pan roast (a kind of spicy stew with shellfish in it), orzo paella (very tasty) and a mojo marinated pork chop. Everything was so good we had to sample some desserts too, including flan, apple tart and maduros foster (like bananas foster). They were all delicious, so try to leave room for dessert and coffee!!

The tab for our party of four came to almost $200 before the tip. However, it was worth every penny. We will visit again next time we travel to Daytona.
