As a new Smyrna local, I've been eating at Blackbeards for 20 years or longer, and i've never had a bad meal. In fact, the food is always consistantly excellent! Always fresh and the best prime rib or seafood you can get. I'm not sure how they keep it so consistant but it keeps you coming back. Give them a try You'll love it!

Great Menu, Great Atmosphere, STOP...
Tried the following, Grouper broiled, guest tried the Grouper fried, bowl of New England Chowder. First the chowder tasted like some other seafood item, not clams. The consistency was like heavy paste, cream of wheat. We did not eat it after a taste.
The Grouper broiled was covered in red, which was a heavy seasoning, mostly Paprika. Now, I was not able to taste the fish, just the seasoning. What a shame to ruin a fine fish by smothering it in Paprika. The waitress did offer to redo it. She WAS quick to point out that MOST people like it that way. I have been in Florida for thirty years. Never saw such a waste of a fine fish and our fine meal. Can not say much better for the fried Grouper. It was paper thin, therefore when fried it was more coating than fish, and more like a think potato chip in appearance. Best ice tea had in a long time. I did not got there for the ice tea. Service was fair. Slow and we were hardly checked on, yet it was a slow afternoon. There are many other places in Volusia County to have wonderful fish. I will be returning to all of them, but not to this place. Dissappointment at best.

“Great Seafood Chowder”

This is a good seafood restaurant...not sure I would say great. We immediately went to the bar and got our names on the small tables that are in the bar area. We waited for about 30 minutes and enjoyed all the local conversations going on.

The bucket of bread is delicious, the salad bar was okay and the soup was wonderful. I got the broiled seafood platter and was disappointed with the crab cake. I don't like a lot of filler and having had Chesapeake Bay crab cakes, I guess I'm spoiled. The fish and scallops were good. My friend got the blackened grouper which disappeared quickly, so it must have been good.

Overall, I would recommend this restaurant and if you don't want to wait, get reservations.

We went to Blackbeard's for dinner the other night based on the strong recommendation on tripadvisor.com, and this restaurant certainly exceeded our expectations. My husband and I have both worked in the restaurant industry, so this doesn't happen very often!
Complementary Manhattan Fish Chowder and Salad Bar came with every meal, along with Fresh Rolls. My husband and I split a half-dozen fresh, raw oysters for only $3.99 USD -- an unbelievable deal for the tastiest, freshest oysters I've ever had. You can actually watch the staff shuck them at the back bar if you time it right. .
I continued to have a combination platter with crab cakes and scallops -- again, the scallops are difficult to do proplery but they were cooked to perfection. My husband and his parents had their delicious prime rib -- amazing the serving size even when we got the 9oz portion.
Here's a testament to this place's view on quality -- when we ordered 6 oysters, we got 8. My husband ordered a skewer of 6 shrimp with his steak, got 9. Everything they did exceeded our expectations. Entrees even come with freshly-made cinnamon rolls at the bottom of your bread basket. What a treat!

We will certainly be coming back each year we come to the Daytona 500. My only hope is that more people don't find out about this place! We neglected to make reservations, waited for 25 minutes (again, they told us 30 - 45 minutes) but the wait was worth every second. First class service, diamond class food, generous portions, appropriately priced for the value.

I hope you enjoy this place as much as we did! We'll be back next year!!
