“We love The Garlic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2011 via mobile

My wife and I have eaten at The Garlic for years and really love the atmosphere. the food has always been good obviously we have tried several things on the menu and all have been good but I recommend the Chicken Roulade. The price is a little higher but it is what you would expect for a finer dining resturaunt. If we don't drink a meal with desserts will run you around $50 for 2 people which is well worth the price for what you are getting.

“That's great food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2011 via mobile

We came because we had been to a different restaurant they owned which was quite wonderful... Relaxed atmosphere, close to beach, great food. Prices are good, more than the usual pizzeria but this is more than a pizzeria. Kind of loud, acoustics are not for a cozy, romantic dinner. Portions were good, food was excellent and wait staff friendly and helpful. A definite Do Again! Plus it's a short walk to the beach.

“'best of times/ worst of times' dining experience.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2011

it was the best and worst experience i've had at a restaurant.

when we first walked in we were wildly impressed by the smells/ the romantic decor -- we were SO excited to have found this "gem". and turns out the food WAS great. and the live music/ atmosphere so nice.

but . . . the service was FRIGHTENING! our server, Cindi D (#131) was the most unprofessional, rude, ANGRY waitress i have ever seen! we were shocked.

here's what transpired:

there were a series of errors that we did not hold her responsible for and were quite patient about. we believe it was just a mistake. no big deal. we didn't mind waiting. the bread was good and keeping us content. it was SHE who got angry with US. she blamed US somehow?!

our meal was served - by another staff member. we never saw her again until she delivered our bill. no drink refills. no offer of parmesan cheese - like we saw other tables receive. one of our party spied extra napkins and "to go" containers on a shelf nearby and played waitress for us.

taking pity on her, that maybe she was having a rough night or that the kitchen staff were being harsh with her for the errors, when she brought the bill i tried to clear the air. i said to her "i'm so sorry you are having a rough night." and grinning asked, "do we need to hug it out?" - hoping to lighten her mood. she said NO - pointed her finger at two members of our party and began to blame them angrily for the last of a series of errors. she then turned and left. not willing to talk rationally.

we looked at the bill and saw it was all on one check. we were terrified to ask her to split it for us after such an angry and emotional display.

someone in our party calmly went looking for assistance, and ran into her. she was frigid. "i felt like i just rubbed up against a cactus" is how the encounter was described to us by our party member.

this was "the last straw" to me. i asked for the manager/ owner - convinced he should know what was going on in his establishment. and this was the MOST shocking and disappointing part of all. he too was harsh, arrogant and cold. he was more concerned with protecting his restaurant's reputation than being compassionate with the customers or even listening to our concern. how sad.

one member of our party, a minister, explained VERY calmly the situation in a quiet discreet tone - careful to include all of the good in with what we believe were accidental, human errors, and yet the exagerated negative attitude and unprofesional behavior of our server.

he kept interrupting the explanation with "just get to the criticism". "this is the most successful restaurant in town!" . . . defensive and rude.

we left so disappointed.
it is the first time i have EVER left a $1.00 tip in my life. the others left 10%. i WILL be checking to see how/ what our cards were charged - as Cindi D made sure she added in her own tip to our bills.

*sigh* what a shame. and the only blemish on our otherwise fabulous and positive vacation in New Smyrna Beach.

“wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2011

We have driven by The Garlic many times in the years we have been coming to NSB, my wife said we need to give it a try. We are sorry we didn't stop here sooner. The Garlic was a wonderful experience, we were seated in the patio area which is pretty well covered with trees and many fans to keep the air moving on a warm evening. Our waiter was very accomidating, the food was wonerful and the patio area is awesome with the plants and trees. Don't make the same mistake we did, don't keep driving by. Give the Garlic a try you won't be disapointed!!!!

“Perfect place for a "date night"!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2011 via mobile

My wife and I always make plans for a dinner out at the garlic when in New Smyrna on vacation. The food is unique and wonderful and the atmosphere is creative and romantic. Try to go after sunset and sit beneath the huge oak trees on the patio next to the outdoor fireplace.
