You know the place. Everyone has one. That Little Italian Restaurant Right Around the Corner. Comfortable but upscale; excellent food; good, friendly service; not cheap, but reasonable prices. I've been looking for a place like this in New Port Richey for years, and now I can stop looking.
The tables are set a bit more close together than I would like, but it was a slow evening, and we had plenty of space for our first visit here. The dining room has subdued lighting, with brick and plank-paneled walls which give it a modern touch. Sounds are muted by the carpet underfoot.
Our waiter, Ted, was very attentive to our party of five. Drinks were served quickly, and, being first-timers, he was helpful with dinner suggestions. The menu is superb. My Clams Oreganata were excellent. Small, tender clams in a tasty breadcrumb topping are available by the half- or full-dozen. Six are just right for one person. Entrées are served with soup or salad and pasta. Five people ordered five different entrées, and no one was disappointed. My Veal Saltimbocca was light and tender, perfectly prepared. The chef’s chicken special was sautéed with garlic and topped with spinach and feta cheese. The Veal Française was delicately lemony, and we enjoyed the Chicken Siciliana, made with ham and topped with eggplant in a thick tomato sauce. The Veal Marsala had a rich wine sauce smothered with mushrooms. Our side pasta choices were ziti, linguini or angel hair pasta served with a marinara sauce or the sauce accompanying our dinners. We ended the meal with a rich, creamy cappuccino.
Toward the end of our meal, the owner stopped by our table to see that everything was satisfactory. She welcomed us as first-time visitors and encouraged us to visit again. A repeat performance will not require too much encouragement.
