We have stayed before in Naples, at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort, but were unable to get an affordable rate this time so we had to find an alternative. We did some research and selected Inn at Pelican Bay. We stayed for a week and were very happy with this hotel. It is a quiet, comfortable, unassuming and low-key place. There is minimal "service" at this hotel -- nobody is going to bring you a drink menu while you sun by the pool, or wait on you at breakfast. We brought our own luggage to our room. It's all pretty much self-service oriented.
Pros: Convenient location in North Naples near the Mercado, next door to a CVS and supermarket. It's just under a mile to the beach, so if you like to walk, it's not far. The rooms have free hi-speed wifi which worked really well. There is also a "beach parking" garage on Vanderbilt Beach Road if you prefer to drive. Breakfast is a well-stocked self-service affair of bagels and cream cheese, yogurts, muffins, toast, hard boiled eggs, cereals, milk, juice, coffee, make-our-own waffles with fruit toppings or maple syrup, fruit salad, and apples or bananas. The rooms are clean and very comfortable, with balconies on the lake side facing west with a lovely sunset view. You will also see turtles in the lake, and lots of birds. There is plenty of self-parking. The pool area was nicely landscaped but very small as you would expect at a boutique hotel. The front desk was very friendly at both check-in and check-out.
Cons: We can confirm that the 2 elevators were very slow (we took the stairs). The soap in the rooms is an exfoliating oatmeal soap with a big hole in the middle of it. It works like a large bar of soap which was the intent, but when you have a sunburn, scratchy exfoliating soap is the last thing you want! We ended up buying Dove soap next door at CVS. Housekeeping woke us up at 8:00 am the first morning -- so don't forget to hang the "do not disturb" sign out. Our air conditioner didn't seem to work the first day. We called the front desk and they sent someone up right away to find out the problem. Someone came later to reset it, and that fixed it. The maid left our balcony sliding door wide open one day - so when we returned the room was rather warm - this was a bit irritating. The woman who cleans the breakfast area also makes quite a lot of noise clearing dishes and sweeping up. A little bit more training to smooth these rough edges and things would be even better.
