“The little things”

We wondered why housekeeping carts were in hallway late in the day until we realized they were doing a Second Daily Delivery of clean towels. Much appreciated. The bathroom lighting was the best I've seen anywhere. The free car valet service was fast, efficient and spot on professional; and the way the bartenders at the beach bar handled the orders coming from a crowd that was three-deep all around was downright awesome. Then there was the Gulf view. What can I say other than I wanna live here!!!

Our family travels frequently, for both business and pleasure. After having children, our needs from a hotel have changed. The best hotel we have ever stayed in was the Four Seasons Maui, which was beyond exquisite. Our most recent stay in Florida was the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club, which was nice, and our upcoming stay will be at the Ritz Carlton Amelia Island. We have stayed at several hotels in Naples, and the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club is our favorite so far. The hotel has the character of "old florida", which I associate with Naples. The rooms were clean and updated (Watkins building), with a full bath and a separate sink/vanity, the beds were comfortable, the balcony was clean, the wet bar and refrigerator were a welcome surprise, and the room size would compare to a junior suite at a marriott/hilton/ etc. The hospitality was superior. Lunch at the pool was above expected quality and served promptly. Dinner on HB's patio at sunset was great. The breakfast quality was good, but service was a little slow, and the staff seemed either unorganized or understaffed. The "general store" offered breakfast, snacks, hot sandwiches, pizza, and deserts. There is a barber located in the lobby. There is a cute shop selling clothing etc. I was impressed by the details which were not overlooked e.g. the poolside shop not only sells inflatables for the kids, but actually has an air compressor with which to blow them up. The hotel and staff were family friendly and the hotel itself along with food etc., were not overpriced. The beach was great. We did not take advantage of golf or tennis. Cathy the concierge was great. We found Cosmo's pizza and to have great take out for a low key night. WiFi is expensive. Do yourself a favor and activate your cell phone as a modem for $20 a month, rather than pay $10 a night from the hotel.

The Hotel is perfectly located for the beach with excellent restaurants. The rooms are traditionally appointed with quality furnishings. A car is necessary if you want to take advantage of the shops, outlet malls and other restaurants. There is an adult only sun-bed/pool area and a larger family pool.

Our family was together for a late lunch on the gulf and it was lovely, food was very
good and service was pleasant, courteous and accommodating. It was our first evening together as we came from Texas and Colorado and Illinois for Christmas
in Naples. It was a memorable Christmas eve lunch before Church. We will be back soon. We did not stay at the Hotel as our host lives in Naples.

This is THE place to go in Naples to watch a beautiful sunset. We like to go on Sunday evenings, when the have a live band. The bartenders are very friendly and attentive. The music, drinks and atmosphere are wonderful. It is a bit pricey, but worth it.

Let me preface this review by stating that my wife and I have been spoiled by beautiful beachfront resorts. Our travel time is precious to us, so we seek out lovely properties with exemplary service. This property was probably beautiful when it was built in 1946. Unfortunately, it is showing a bit of age.

Key strengths of the property (I can't comment on the golf and tennis): 1) Proximity to the beach ...our room felt like it was about 100 feet...that's nice!; 2) proximity to downtown; 3) extremely casual.

Key weaknesses: 1) Décor and condition of property may be sub-optimal for some; 2) pools and restaurants seem small and dated; 3) service is simply adequate.

The guests can also be interesting. We went for a walk on the beach and when we returned 40 minutes later, a couple had removed all of our things from our lounge chairs and taken them (mind you, we paid $50 for the chairs and umbrella rental). When I said something to them, they told me basically to take a hike. My wife made me manage this in a civil fashion -- so I went to the people responsible for the beach chairs and they did virtually nothing.

We won't be returning to the Naples Beach Hotel, but we will return to Naples. We found some fabulous restaurants (Café Dell Amore was a real treat)...and had good time with old friends.

Room Tip: We paid for beachfront and had a room where the beach was barely visible. Be sure you are on the fif...

We so loved our stay here, with a room opening up directly to the beach. We are coming back to spend our first night together as man and wife in May! People are friendly, food delicious, room intimate and quaint, quiet, clean and just a great place to enjoy what Florida has to offer.
