Stayed one night at the Port of Islands Resort and Marina. Had read some previous poor reviews but decided to stay one night.
The location, passing through the southern Everglades is good. the pool area and the marina are very nice. Had a nice trip to see the Manatee from the marina with Capt Dave.
However the hotel is being run down (Not my words). Rooms which are basic motel type rooms are being sold off and sub-let , some people appeared to be living in them.
The staff could do with some happy pills and if you want to feel unwanted at breakfast time this is the place for you.
Ignore the pictures of the hotel on the web site. The building shown on some sites is the reception and restaurant block ( the Restaurant is not used for breakfast you have to sit in the reception area ) and any picture showing the hotel under the name Retreat Del Sol with high rise blocks are an architects dream, not one brick has been laid yet.
We had a drive to Everglades City for a meal and wished we had stayed in the motels there.

“Port of the Islands is... ok”

The website is very decieving and i asked the lady at the front desk what the deal was. She explained that across the street is the Port of the Island Resort and Marina soon to be introduced as Retreat del Sol at Port of the Islands, and that orbitz was using there pictures for the hotel called just Port Of the Islands, which is where orbitz books you and where i stayed. It is not a three star resort, but the old building is very nice. They have a full size olympic pool, and a small bar, but are currently in the process of building a full bar and ballroom according to the woman at the front desk. The staff was very helpful, and the hotel is about 20 minutes from Naples and 15 minutes from Everglades City. If you like a more rustic, off the beaten path hotel, this is the place to stay. If your looking for luxury avoid this place and stay in Naples.

After reviewing the hotels website and reading some other reviews, we decided to go with this hotel. It was priced at a bargain of $91 per night on Cheaptickets.com, so we couldn't pass it up.

The hotel's website is a lie and is very deceiving.

I wish we would have just stayed at the Super 8 in Naples.

This place is a dump.

Our room had not been updated for at least a decade. There was only one lamp in the corner of the room. There were no bedside lamps. There was no alarm clock. There weren't any hangers for clothes. The TV had the worst reception I've seen in years- rabbit ears would have been better.

We were told that our room was the best one they had to offer. They lied straight to my face.

They remedied the lamp and alarm clock situation, but my impression was made and nothing they could do at that point would have made me happy... well, maybe a full refund so we could step up to Super 8 or Motel 6.

Avoid this place.

IThe location is 30 minutes outside Naples and 20 minutes from Marco Island.

We found out about this place from a travel book dated 2006 that called it a "Full service resort" and was called "Ultra-Deluxe". It was far from that. I would say it's similar to a decent La Quinta. Maybe 2.5 stars. Checkin person wasn't particularly talkative, but it went pretty smooth. The place was absolutely empty giving it a very eerie feel. Rooms were nicely appointed with a nice TV (many channels), a player (!) and a fridge and microwave. At first we were excited about having a deck, but then disappointed in finding out that it's a veranda that goes around the entire building. We had a view of the the empty parking lot. They did provide a small breakfast of english muffins and Costco like pastries. The fruit salad looked several days old. About the best feature of the place is the pool. Very large and clean and comfortable. We were there only one night and when we checked out, I noticed a couple of signs. One was the schedule for the "mobile" spa, and another saying that they do not offer maid service. Weird. I think that are in the process of converting this resort into some kind of mini-condo room things or something.

Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't pay over $125 a night for this place. And if you have nothing going on in the area, stay in Naples.

“Great Atmosphere, friendly and good fun”

Port of the Islands Resort and Marina

Jul 12, 2006

Of the seven nights we stayed in Florida in February, this was by far and away the best. We were driven in here by oncoming thunderstorms in the bay and expected to pay an arm and a leg, but found the prices to be no different to those elsewhere.

The room, located off the main atrium was adequate, with a shared balcony that wrapped around the outside, and contained all the usual amenities one would expect to find in a US Hotel room. The bar area was well populated, probably as it was a Friday night, and we ate a light bite in the excellent restaurant-crab rolls, which were superb.

The weather knocked the power out, but we sat outside, guests and locals mingling, shooting the breeze, til the power got back on.
The weather failed to clear in time to visit Everglades City for the Seafood Festival on the Saturday, and a second night was sadly not an option, as they were fully booked.

A return visit for us will be a must.
