“rude check in women & maintanance issues”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2014

Can not believe we could not check in as reception lady sitting outside eating & she told sharply she was on her break.Went & had a lovely meal in the restaurant [not owned by hotel so the food & service was great] until it suited her to check us in. We did not get the room we booked so I tried to explain this at reception but she could not have cared less. I asked for the manager but he was not available, she had no phone number for him as he didn't like being disturbed at the weekend.!!This was not a cheap room & I've had better customer service from Motel 6 !!! The room had many maintainance issues............. broken towel rack, really noisy air con, tape over a light switch. The room was dirty, cobwebs hanging from ceiling & staircase needed a serious clean. Such a shame as I'm sure the hotel was once lovely ................... now just a run down old place with rude untrained staff. Will say though the lovely lady I spoke to the next morning was great & really apologetic I will never stay here again & would advise other people to look elsewhere.

I am surprised that this Resort did not rank higher in Tripadvisor, for it is a first class facility. Great pool area, bar-b-ques, and birds galore. It's also a perfect spot to commence an Everglades adventure.

We couldn't have been more pleased in finding this hotel, perfectly tucked away, providing a quiet, simple and relaxing stay. We actually stumbled onto this hotel thanks to a Groupon special; having never visited the Naples area, we were incredibly impressed not only with the beautiful architecture of the hotel and historical significance of the land itself, but of all the wonderful things to do in surrounding areas. Gorgeous day trips to Marco Island, Afternoons in Downtown Naples, awesome local dining, lots of adventure opportunities, ending each day returning to our peaceful room at the hotel and starting out each morning with their free breakfast with views of the beautiful pool area. Loved the view of the Mariana from our room on the 2nd floor and were delighted to spot Panthers and other wildlife during our drive back and forth to the hotel. There was so much to do in the area, we're definitely planning a return trip to Port of the Islands Everglades Adventure Resort! FYI - the hotel itself is not a fancy resort, its simple and laid back. If you're looking for wine glasses, robes hanging in the closet, etc - you may want to look at the Hilton or Marriott on Marco Island - but I guarantee you, you'll find something at Island of the Everglades you won't find anywhere else. Definitely a trip to remember :)

Room Tip: Important to note that you must check in prior to 5pm to avoid complications as no one works the fro...

If you can't make up your mind where to stay look no further.Do yourself a favor and stroll the grounds. There's a beautiful tropical pool where you expect to see Ester Williams swim by and Tarzan swing down from the coco palms. An ospree and her 3 babies keep watch from their nest in the hotel tower.A full service marina and store are outback along with the cutest little poonton tour boats with canvas tops to keep the sun off.And they travel gently in a no wake zone to protect all the manatees you'll see, not scaring them half to death No noisy airboats. On the docks and banks, fishermen catch and clean their fish with pelicans waiting patiently for handouts. I just love it here and wish I never had to leave. Our unit here was in the one story cabanas outback of the hotel by the pool.Delightful, quiet, screened lani in a pretty little courtyard with an archway leading to the pool and close by parking through the opposite archway .Loved evenings and early mornings sitting out with my coffee listening to the birds. My husband even saw a possum climbing the palm tree in front of our unit. What a wonderful, wonderful time. The staff is very pleasant. Carol on the desk is a peach and is a treasuretrove of helpful information. Jud the grounds and hotel fix it guy is a card .He's so funny and also very helpful. Wade is wonderful too.Good People! Even though I didn't use them, the resort has an exercise room, sauna, and bililard room located on the second floor of the hotel.Wow! All of this out here,so close and yet so far away from all the noise and bustle of Naples. The hotel also has a free continental breakfast, which I'm sorry to say I didn't try.I'm an early riser ,so I made coffee and breakfast in my little pool cabana and sat out with the birds, But I was curious so I did go over to the restaurant to see what was offered. For a quick bite before you go off exploring it was perfect.Coffee, tea, milk, juice, muffins, real Florida fresh oranges, waffles cereal and toast. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner.Don't miss it.Very affordable prices and great food.I gave them a glowing review too. If you like the night life and like to boogie, this isn't the place for you. If you are high maintenance and need a facial, manicure, massage,or a new doo, this is not the place for you. But if you want a quiet RETREAT,this is the place for you. BINGO You found it. Nice down to earth people. A great place to stay and dine in Paradise on Earth. Remember don't tell too many others; We don't want to ruin it.I hope to be by the pool come Winter with my husband Marshall.Stop by and say hello.

Room Tip: Get a cute little cabana in a courtyard behind the hotel and to the sides of the pool. One story,tile...

Bring your breakfast, rooms adequate but breakfast a zero. Must have a car to get around but close enough to marco island without the high prices. Clean and peaceful surroundings. Close to national parks and eco adventures.

This property is very pretty and impressive looking but the accommodations are lacking for a "resort". The rooms are clean but need updating and there is little attention to detail that I expect in a resort ie glasses instead of plastic cups, amenities in the bathroom, wine glasses provided, robes in the closet... The staff is pleasant but leaves at 5:30. If you need something you have to go downstairs to call. The breakfast was a joke. It was to be open at 8:30 but never opened until 9. Even then they weren't prepared; no plates or bowls, and they were still bringing out food. Nothing hot except frozen waffles you could toast. Unless you want to stay in Naples, there are few choices of lodging in the Everglades. On a positive note they have a very nice workout room and game room. This could be a first class facility if more attention was afforded to the rooms, services and dining room.

Dear TraveljunkieOhio,
Thank you very much for choosing to stay with us at Port of the Islands Resort. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the property along with the large fitness area and game room. I do apologize about the breakfast, we have just recently opened a new restaurant in the hotel that will be serving breakfast lunch and dinner. We are also working to hire more staff so that the front desk can stay open later. Thank you again and we do hope to see you back soon.

I must say I left feeling disappointed. We booked a king cottage as it offered a stovetop in the kitchenette. The room itself was fine, but we did feel it needed some attention to small details: the refrigerator did not have a setting control that we could get to through the ice accumulation, but even with the ice it was not cool enough to safely store milk, mayo and the like; housekeeping apparently does not think to clean behind the bathroom door, because when the door was closed there was an obvious dirty strip where the door had been; the a/c wall unit was incredibly LOUD; paint touch-up would make the room look as nice as the outside does. What really was confusing though, was housekeeping. No where did we find it stated that there is no housekeeping, in fact, there was a sign in the room you were to put on the bed when wanting fresh sheets. Doesn't that mean they come in? Upon returning at the end of the day, all that was done was trash was removed and towels were replaced. Nothing else was done! Having internet availability was essential for my husband who is taking classes, but the access was extremely slow and kept timing out. Breakfast was not until 8:30, which is a late start for those of us wanting to hit the trails early, and turned out to be Publix waffles and a toaster. No one was at the front desk until 8:30 and there were no directions on what to do for an early check-out. We finally figured out that the room key also opened the lobby door, and so left the keys and a note on the counter. The grounds are very, very nice - we just wish as much attention was directed to the rooms.
