I first visited Bella Maria Cafe in September 2012 and was mesmerized. Not so much this time.
During this recent visit in early June 2013, the food greatly disappointed. I, again, ordered from the special menu but this time the portions were noticeably reduced. Although the salad was comparable in taste and size, the entree was appetizer-size and the dessert was noticeably smaller. The Shrimp Scampi was not in the formerly experienced mojo-style sauce and it was thin and less flavorable. Rice is inexpensive and can be used as a filler to cut costs in other areas but, this time, not much rice was served with the five large shrimp. I understand in these hard economic times that proprietors are finding it difficult to raise prices but they certainly can't expect people to be satisfied with such skimpy portions. Also, on this visit, I was vacationing with extended family on Captiva and we all took the extra time to drive down to Naples (versus passing by) which made the experience hurt that much more. My relatives were quick to make comments about the portion size. I am not sure these relatives will ever again take my restaurant reviews seriously. However, our waiter, Carlos, was again very consistent with frequent attention and outstanding service.
Needless to say, I reduce my rating to good. I will give Bella Maria another chance in the future and I sure hope they deliver next time around. Hopefully, they will take this review as constructive criticism and reverse course.
