While cleaning my van one day, out of the corner of my eye a large hawk (Osprey) swooped down behind my vehicle. Upon inspection the bird literaly crashed into the ground and was lying still, in a daze. The heat was turned up too full SW FL blazing mode, and I assumed that had something to do with the bird dropping out of the sky. I carefully picked up him up by his legs and placed him in the front seat of my van. As soon as he hit the seat he awoke from his blackout and jumped up on the dash...ooops, now I have a pissed off 2 foot long hawk with razor sharp talons that has taken over my van!!! I called the Conservancy, who sent a wonderful handler with in 25 minutes! She explained that during this time of year food is scarce. Once the osprey looses enough body mass their ability to fly becomes impaired...the most likely cause of his kamakazi style nose-dive. She created a distraction with one hand while grabing his legs from my dash with the other...and was off on her way back to feed and treat my winged friend. I truly appreciated their quick response as it probably saved me from being ripped to shreds by my new pet on the way home! Thank you!
