“Strolling the bird-watching boardwalk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

This scenic Sanctuary not only gives glimpses of herons, storks, woodpeckers, and any number of egrets, there are the young alligators browsing in the sun. It is a painless way to get your exercise, AND lift your spirits. Walking the boardwalk out over the grasslands, and the swampy areas, with many places to just sit and be serene, is a must on every trip to Naples.

“Corkscrew swamp”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

Went to visit swamp yesterday. Amazing trees got to see some beautifull butterflies and saw a red bellied woodpecker and a red shouldered hawk. Also one alligator mum has 12 babys. Only downside was the black flies on some parts of the boardwalk there is a sign in reception saying that they are a problem at the moment as they bite so recommends deet spray which they sell. Lovely shop, coffee not available at the moment as machine broken but the lady let us bring our own food to eat in the cafe area. Well worth a visit as you feel out in the wild.

A good and easy wander through a number of typical S Florida habitats. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Try to get there first thing or last thing for the best wildlife viewing.

“Wildlife viewing is GREAT! Plus history. A favorite place for me.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

What a jewel of a place. Incredible length of boardwalk through the swamp for a great break from visiting beaches. I especially liked the historical references that told the story of society ladies from early last century that created a demand for the slaughter of birds for their hat feathers. The feather hunters camped nearby and mercilessly killed every bird available. Thankfully, we don't still wear feather hats and this place is now a sanctuary for all types of wildlife.
This is one of my favorite places. I am pretty certain the entire boardwalk is wheel chair accessible.

“Painted Buntings!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Looking for a place to get a true sense of what most of Florida was like before the world discovered warm winters? Corkscrew is it! This beautifully maintained boardwalk through the "swamp" is serene yet teeming with wildlife. Guides are available along the walk to answer questions and actually set up telescopes for those who want a better view of distant birds and animals. As amateur birders, we found Corkscrew incredible. Don't miss it if you have the time and bring your binoculars!
