“Great place to walk the Florida swamp.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Enjoyed the boardwalk trail thru the cyprus swamp. Lots to observe in the water areas. Saw alligators, herons, hawks, lizards, raccons, and a barred owl.

“Very nice a peaceful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Natural settings, well kept with easy access. There were lots of birds and wood storks to view. It was an easy drive from there to the Casino.

“Sanctuary in Every Sense of the Word”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

We have visited the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary on three occasions, and each trip was both fascinating and educational. The boardwalk allows visitors to wander at a relaxed pace through a variety of habitats in this well-maintained natural setting. As beginning birders, we were thrilled to observe different species each time we visited. Volunteers are stationed along the walkway to answer questions and point out wildlife, and the visitors' center is organized to promote knowledge of the environment in general, and birds in particular. Bring binoculars, a camera, and an Audubon field guide to help you observe, identify. and enjoy the beautiful creatures that inhabit this sancturary.

“Florida nature in all its glory!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

This sanctuary is run by the Audubon Society. They maintain over 2 miles of boardwalk trails through several different tropical ecosystems from prairie to grasslands to swamp. Within each ecosystem you view the native plants and animals. Time of year, time of day, and noise levels can vary your experience each time. There is an option for the full walk or a shortened walk. Although children would benefit from this experience, prepping beforehand about being quiet and respectful of nature is a must. Many of today's computer game addicted children would find this boring and might have a hard time being quiet enough. I would recommend bringing a pair of binoculars, although you can rent a pair at the welcome center. I loved the morning I spent walking the trails. I spotted a baby alligator, several red tailed hawks, ibis, white herons, blue herons, anhingas, turtles, and birds I have yet to identify. There were beautiful flowers in bloom and a myriad of new trees and plants to see. I'm glad I didn't miss this sanctuary with all the glitz, glamour, and beach life that Naples has to offer.

“Nice Scenic Walk Through Old Florida”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

The sanctuary is about 30 minutes east of I-75 off of Immokalee Road. It has a large boardwalk trail with a few options depending on how far you want to walk. The setting is great, from open prairie to cypress swamps. We often see deer. They have a few snacks and drinks available in the welcome center. The number of birds we have seen has varied quite a bit each visit. I typically expect to see more birds than I do, but it is still worth the trip. It will be quite wet below and around the boardwalk in the summer and fall, and then begin to get dryer through the winter months. Fall is my favorite time to go.
