“Great cheap breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

We were getting ready to eat breakfast at some other place in Mt. Dora while we were in town camping. A lady on the street recommended we drive around the corner and try out Highland St. Cafe if we wanted a "good old diner," which we cannot find down in the Orlando area. Over the course of the next couple of days, we sampled most of the breakfast menu. Not a complaint from us. From the coffee (Folgers) to the grits to the corn beef hash we absolutely loved this place!

“Great breakfast and lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

While staying in Mt. Dora, we went here for breakfast with friends and my wife and I just got back from eating lunch here. It's away from the downtown area, but is really worth a visit. They advertise the best breakfast in Mt. Dora and they wouldn't get an argument from us. We all thought it was one of the best breakfasts we've had anywhere. For lunch, we only had soup, salad and a sandwich which were all exceptionally good.

“Great Home Town Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2012

The Highland Street Cafe is where we go when we want to eat home cooking, but do not actually want to cook. We love breakfast with crisp waffles, tender pancakes, eggs always cooked perfectly and delicious bacon. Lunch is also great with a daily special. The hamburgers are terrific.

The ambiance is not outstanding. It is an old diner style restaurant so tables and booths are kind of hit and miss. They do maximize the space to accommodate as many diners as possible. The restaurant has a Scottish Terrier theme, and there are dozens of pictures of these cute little dogs as well as a few saying on the menu. It is really quite fun if you just allow yourself to absorb the atmosphere without judgment.

The customer service is outstanding. We eat there at least once a week, and usually more often. We have never had to wait for a table. Are server is generally at our table at the same time we are, and beverages are provided immediately. Orders are taken promptly and food arrives hot and correct is excellent time. The four ladies who generally work here as servers are top notch at their jobs, and exceptionally pleasant as well. I often see the owner delivering meals to tables or cleaning them after guests have left. Clearly helping his guests is more important than preserving some false sense of dignity.

This is our "go to" place for a great meal and friendly service, and it is where we take our house guests for breakfast when we have visitors. My only complaint is that I wished they were open for dinner.
