When I go to the Orlando area, I dream of seeing the sun set over Lake Dora from the City of Mt. Dora. My wife prefers the arts and craft stores and some will spend hours antiquing. My wife asked me to make special mention of the Stamping Station
on N Alexander Street for those that like scrapbooking and home made greating cards. According to her, it is unique in South-Central Florida. This little town is about an hour's drive from Orlando partly on I-4 and a good part on a scenic rural road. It can be seen all year round.
As the sun sets late in the evening during the summer, it is best to do some shopping and then head for the terrace of the Pisces Raising Steak House to get a table to await the spectacle. I take it that there are mixed reviews about this restaurant, but the terrace has a bar that overlooks the lake. I assume that at the height of the tourist season this might be impractical. So use the boat docks below as we've done with our grandkids. Other times of the year, sun set being earlier it is a bit more convinient for those that will be returning to Orlando. Check out my pictures. We went down to the boat docks to view in the early spring and found many other tourists, even some from Brazil.
We also took our kids on the train ride around the lake. I wouldn't give it high marks. The staff is enthusiastic, but there is really very little to see. After the parks, the grandkids weren't impressed. But, the town itself is a happening and a good change of pace from the Orlando parks. The sunsets are unforgetable..
