Made for a weekend day trip, or along of the MANY festivals held her. You can do a "two fer" and do Renningers Antiques Center and flee market while in the area, check on Renningers for special events and times.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2012

great tour of the canals with captain dave. gave a history lesson and saw some nature that i can not even describe. Alligators, bald eagles, blue herons, snakes and turtles all in their own natural environment.

“Unique Experience In The Wild”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2012

Central Florida offers so many "manufactured" attractions. It was so nice to see nature, virtually untouched. All the birds and animals that were promised were seen, each in their own habitat. The boat was spotless, clearly well maintained. The ride was smooth across the lake, even on a windy day. The two man crew were very knowledgable about both the plants and animals. They were also very accommodating to all the passengers. They helped make the two hour trip very special. This was a very reasonable investment, given all that we experienced.

“Excellent Views - not typical of Florida”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2012

In my opinion, one of the most romantic views in Florida. The town cultivates a sense of history, and has some very nice restuarants. Friendly people, willing to help with directions and recommendations.

“The Perfect Boat Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2012

Before we left our house at the Villages, we called "Premier Boat Tours" in Mt. Dora to make reservations for a 2-hour boat tour of Lake Dora and the canal that's attached to it.. We arrived quite on time, and had the most perfect local boat tour that we have ever taken (and we've taken quite a few).

First of all, the sturdy, clean pontoon boat seats about 24 people in very comfortable bench seats. The boat is covered, and isinglass curtains can be zipped down if the lake part of the ride is splashy. There's a captain and a first mate. Both are first-class in their boat handling and the amount of information they share with us.

So, we're on our way. Since we left from Mt. Dora (the Lakeside Inn dock), we must first cross Lake Dora to get to the Dora Canal. En route, we pass an eagle's nest and spend time watching mama take care of her brood. Father sits nearby.

The Dora Canal is a narrow stretch of waterway that is home, for the first part, to some ecologically minded residents. That part had been man made. When we come to the "natural" part of the canal, we begin to see all kinds of water birds, many of them not usually found in habitated locales. There are turtles sunning themselves, snakes curled up amoung cypress knees, and alligators checking out where to find their next meal. Our guides find even the most obscure creatures.

We spend a little over an hour slowly meandering in the canal and its various side waterways. The other time on this 2-hour cruise is spent on Lake Dora --getting to and from the canal.

Our tour started at 11am. We debarked a little after 1pm. What a wonderful way to spend part of a day!
