“Off the beaten path”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2011

Trimble Park is not that well-known,but it's a hidden treasure. It's a great place for camping, or just for a picnic...which is why we were there on this trip.

The playground and covered pavillions have been refurbished in recent years, so it's a great place for kids and families. There are many picnic tables and barbeque grills to use; the restrooms are very clean. It's also free!

The camping area is small, but well maintained. We haven't camped there in years, so I'm not sure of the rates.

Expect to see wildlife. There's a pond in the camping area that's home to several alligators. (see my photos). There are all kinds of birds, as well as raccoons, squirrels, snakes and an occassional armadillo.

The park is on a peninsula--surrounded by 2 lakes: Lake Carlton and Lake Beauclair. There is also access to the Dora chain of Lakes, that includes 4,476 acre Lake Dora, 7,808 Lake Eustis and 13,788 Lake Harris.

The park has a great boat ramp and marina. The day we were there we saw many boats out on the lake; many folks were fishing.

You can manuever across the lakes to dock at the Mt. Dora Mount (Dora Boating Center & Marina). You can dock your boat and take a walk through the beautiful town of Mt. Dora with it's tree-lined streets, unique shops and restaurants, and historic landmarks (Lakeside Inn). You can also sail around the peninsula to the camping area, which also has a nice marina.
