“Great Sunday Breakfast Buffett!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

It's a family tradition to gather at la Carretta for breakfast before Church. They have an excellent breakfast Buffett. Great Cafe Con Leche and Cuban Toast as well.

“Language Barrier made this difficult”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

The food quality was decent. I do not speak Spanish, however, and was unable to effectively communicate with the staff, as none of them spoke English. I do not know if there were cultural differences, but we went our entire meal without a drink refill. It also took around 40 minutes to receive our meal(which were sandwiches) and those around us that arrived later than us with full entrees ate before we even received our sandwiches. Would not go back.

“Great weekend breakfast buffet; crash course in Cuban breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

We go once every few months to the Saturday/Sunday breakfast buffet. It's decidedly a self-service affair but the non-Cubans shouldn't stay away. For about $8 you get a crash course in Cuban and Latin American breakfast.

The buffet includes one glass of orange juice and cafe-con-leche (coffee with milk). Works like this: They will bring a cup of steamed milk. And a little metal container-full of freshly made Cuban coffee. You can then decide on the strength of your cafe-con-leche. If you need more milk, just ask for it. This is a Cuban breakfast staple; don't be surprised if your waitress asks if you want some for the kids. Just say no and ask for the hot chocolate instead for the kids. It's traditional, thick hot chocolate, not the watery stuff made from a powder.

The buffet includes rolls and breads. Skip those. You can get those anywhere. Instead, ask your server to bring you Cuban toast (at no charge). That's Cuban bread that has been sliced, buttered and then toasted and pressed. Use it to dunk in your cafe-con-leche. Or just eat it as is. Or make a sandwich out of the meats on the buffet.

There is always a big bowl of freshly cut mixed seasonal fruit in its own juice. This is my personal favorite. Depending on the season, you might get combinations of mango, apples, watermelon, grapes, peaches, melon, pears... whatever. There are fried eggs and usually two scrambled eggs, one plain and one with vegetables. There may be ham or chicken croquettes, fried chicken (a cross between KFC and chicken wings, cut small), thinly sliced honeyed ham, or sausages. There may be pancakes or waffles. And a few cold cereals. No yogurt. There is usually white rice, picadillo (seasoned ground beef) and some sort of stew to put over the rice. Or you can just put a fried egg on top of the rice.

There is always an assortment of pastelitos: puff pastry stuffed with gauva, or sweetened cream cheese, or seasoned ground beef, or coconut. They make an exceptionally moist yellow pound cake that is served in small squares - and sometimes will have a variation as a coffee cake. Don't miss out on the pastelitos and the pound cake.

If anything runs low at the buffet, just let your server know. They will either restock or bring the item specifically to your table.

The location in Miramar is bright and always clean, though sometimes the service can be spotty since they're not always checking on you during the buffet. Just flag anyone down and ask for your server, if you need them.

“Good, but we've had better Cuban food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012 via mobile

Nice atmosphere. The menu is completely in Spanish. The food was perfectly fine, but we've had better Cuban food with larger portions and more flavor. The dulce de leche cheesecake was wonderful! If you like Cuban food it is worth a try, but isn't as great as other places (we like Havana's!)

“Cuban food for Non-cubans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

The food wasn't too bad, they need to explain more regarding the dishes. People traveling from out of town need better details on the menu.
