I had the opportunity to play Walkabout on Sunday, with 3 friends. I had not been there for about two months. I am sad to say this course is really going down the tubes. When this course opened, I played it alot, and it was pristine. After the regime change occured (I was there the day after), the club has lost it's (love). The tee boxes are horrendous. Some of them have hardly ANY grass on them. The grass, what's left of it, around the tee boxes is mainly weeds and unckept. The fairways are about 70% good, with the rest being weeds and bare spots. The greens (once the best in town) are showing stress and signs of dying. They have taken sod cutters in certain fairways, and removed fairway grass in huge square plots. Where did the fairway grass get used? I don't know. The #3 hole, a par 3 was closed due to "reconstruction". I can't figure out what they are doing to it. It looked like they were putting huge posts into the ground around the tee box? Why? There are shelters off number 11 that have just fallen to the ground and left laying there. There was alot of rain on Friday, and we played Sunday. There were huge ruts and washouts in the sand cart paths. The lake next to #9 tee was covered with some weird pond scum. I used to see marshalls running around....not anymore. There used to be drink carts, not anymore. What is happening to this great place? On a positive note, you can get good buys on golf balls and some select equipment. I live within a driver to La Cita, and will have to continue going there.
