“Decent but not welcoming.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

We stayed there the first night we arrived in Miami and then stayed the last two nights after our cruise. We waited a bit at the airport after we called for the shuttle but it came and we were happy. They used a different van than usual and since I am getting ready for knee surgery, the climb into this shuttle was a bear. The driver was very nice and pleasant, though. When we arrived, we were not really greeted so there was not a warm and fuzzy upon arrival. We requested a room that was renovated but they were giving us an old room. I requested it again and the counter person said that people were on break so we had to wait. We were confused but did wait. When we got to our room it was open with an air blower machine in the room. Eventually we got to the room but it had no microwave or refrigerator. When I inquired, the man at the desk said I would have to pay extra to get one. At this point, I just wanted to sleep in as the name suggests.
The second stay there was welcoming committee either. In the morning at breakfast, we were drinking tea and were told we needed to move so they could clean. There was a man on staff that approached me twice to hang out with him after hours. The feeling at this hotel was that we just were not that welcome and sometimes the desk staff seemed sarcastic (slightly). There was a wonderful manager there named Debra who was fabulous and tried to fix what she could but sadly the negative feelings were already there. I did tell her though and thanked her for her kindness. While we were there, another patron complained about the same thing. Oh well. This hotel is not up to Choice hotel standards. Bathrooms had fixtures in need of repair. Hallways are very dirty. I will say that the refurbished rooms had very comfortable beds. I saw several mattresses being replaced during our stay. The second stay did have a refrigerator and microwave. The shuttle to the port was great.

Stayed here for 2 nights to look at area colleges with my son. The price was decent compared to other hotels in the area which were fancy and too much money, or questionable and cheaper.

The room itself was clean. The sheets were clean and the mattress and pillows were comfortable. The decor was aesthetically pleasing and the bathroom and shower were nice and clean and well maintained.

A breakfast was offered for free each morning. It was very decent with toast, fruit, yogurt, juices, coffee, cereal, boiled eggs, hot sausage, and make your own belgian waffles. Everything was kept well stocked and the waffle iron was new and worked fantastically without any sticking issues (yes, I notice small things like this!).

There is also a large outdoor pool and free wi-fi for guests.

Check in and check out was easy.

Few things that were not so great: parking is in the rear of the complex and there is no sidewalk until you get to the side of the building, so getting from your car to the front entrance (the only entrance) is not terribly convenient.

Also the AC worked fine, but I have the personal preference of having the fan running all night to drown out any unfamiliar hotel sounds. Our AC did not have a continuous fan, the only was to have it run was to crank down the temp and be very chilled.

The previous thoughts were just personal preferences , but I do have one complaint. The carpeting on the lobby stairs and in the hall way on our floor (3) were very dirty. It is not that they had not necessarily been vacuumed, but they were worn out and embedded with dirt from what looked like years of use. This is NOT indicative of the rooms at all, so that is why I am listing it as a complaint. If they just replace those carpets, it would help the overall feeling of the hotel.

So all in all a good stay and yes, I would stay there again. Hope this helped!

We stayed at this hotel for one night for a stop over while transiting via the US. It was very nice to have a free bus that picked us up from the airport in the evening and dropped us at the airport the next morning to catch the plane. This was one of the reasons we booked this hotel, since other hotels were charging. It's a nice touch, especially when you are from overseas and unsure of things.
The staff and reception were friendly enough and the room was adequate and clean with no complaints. There is no noise from the airport and it's quiet at night.
The breakfast however was a bit of a disappointment, with not much choice and I was expecting better hence why I have lowered the score to 3 stars rather than 4.

I left a small personal item in my hotel room and immediately called the front desk about an hour after checking out. Despite knowing exactly where it was, they informed me that the 'housekeeping manager' did not find anything. Watch out for your things, they were not helpful at all and untrustworthy.

A recent renovation to this location has reaped major rewards. Over half the hotel was renovated now and newly done rooms are great. Much more floor space, and modern furniture accents are great. Only down side, is the bathrooms are small and narrow, with only a stand up shower. Doors to bathroom do not close good, so if privacy is an issue that would be only thing. Hotel is close to airport and highways and with 5 minute driving distance to some decent food. Staff excels at guest experience and is well versed in Spanish and area spots of interest.

My partner and I had a one-night layover in Miami, and chose to stay at the Sleep Inn as it's close to the airport. We called to confirm that late-night check in was available, and were told that their airport shuttle runs 24 hours, with staff always at the front desk.
Not true - we showed up on time, and there was no answer from the front desk/shuttle hotline. After paying for a cab to the hotel, we found there was no staff on duty!
According to a competitor, this is a common problem at the Sleep Inn. Staff will take a room or go home for the night, leaving late-night travellers stranded :(
Save your money - stay at a different hotel in the area.

We stayed here before our cruise. The staff are friendly and the rooms were clean. The breakfast was good and plentiful. Even though you will be right beside the airport, you cannot hear the planes while in you room and we found that a plus. The hotel gives free airport shuttle but they charge for cruise shuttle. It was a great stay!
