“The Real Deal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

If by chance you are, like me, a New Yorker living in exile, or just someone who wishes you were a New Yorker (Come on now… You know who you are).... You must visit Brooklyn Brothers. Before you understand what makes this restaurant a five straight across-the-board, you have to understand a good New York diner. A good New York diner makes real, honest food. It's not fancy-schmancy. The sandwiches do not wear little hats, the waitresses are not 20 years old and blonde, thank God. And the waitstaff is great by the way - there when you need them, gone when you don't. They have everything you need to eat well. They have amazingly fresh, perfectly prepared cold cuts, hot pastrami and corned beef. Note: Please do not be an idiot and order the latter two on whole wheat. Pumpernickel or Rye are your only choices. This is the place for fabulous, house baked, REAL New York bagels, coleslaw regular, awesome dill pickles, And Dr. Brown's. If you have to ask what is Dr. Brown's, you are not a New Yorker, nor are you a candidate to be one. This place offers old-fashioned Good Customer Service. They also throw a good, basic diner breakfast. Oh, and do not miss the matzoh ball soup! Now here's the caveat regarding a "five"for atmosphere… This is not a fancy place. But it is clean and comfortable like any decent New York diner. You don't pay big money, you're eating in a diner, don't complain. It's atmosphere...soak it up. And lastly, every time my daughters and I go into this place, it's seems to have at least one booth full of hungry Cops. In my reasonably vast experience, anywhere the Cops eat is good food and good people. My advice is you start with a breakfast sandwich on a bagel, and a good hot cup of American coffee poured from an old-fashioned Bunn coffee pot. By then you'll believe me, and you will come back for lunch and order one of their amazing deli sandwiches with the meat piled up and to meet Dr. Broner if you haven't. And oy! Don't let me forget that pickle!
