“Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Eden Roc for three nights. We booked thru priceline so we didn't get a spectacular room with a view but the room was very nice, recently renovated, and clean. The hotel is beautiful especially the pool area. We enjoyed the location right on the boardwalk area and were even able to walk down to South Beach one morning (a 30 minute hiike). We ate at the pool bar twice and enjoyed it although the frozen drinks are tiny (about one cup) and very expensive for the size.

The pool area is beautiful and we really enjoyed it although we noticed a lot of people saving chairs and disappearing for the entire day which kept other people from getting to use them. The hotel needs to crack down on that a bit.

The only problem we had was that we could not find bottled water in the hotel except for $13 on the room service menu. The signs to the vending and ice machines led nowhere. The hotel simply put the signs up but hadn't seemed to install the actual machines yet so my husband was sent on a wild goose chase looking for nonexistent machines. When we complained the hotel was nice about it and sent up a complimentary bottle of water.

The beach area is nice except you have to pay for chairs and umbrellas there despite already being a paid guest.

Overall we had a great stay and wouldnt hesitate to recommend the hotel...especially if you can get it for less then $200 a night. I agree with other reviews on here and think the suggested retail rate of $350 is a bit much.

We went here for a few days with a group of friends to celebrate birthdays and enjoy the pool and beach. We were big fans of the Eden Roc prior to renovation and were excited to stay at the 'new' hotel . Our stay had many more negatives than positives and we will not return.

Pros:
New, large room in the tower with balcony and direct ocean views

Hotel is directly on the beach and has a good location between South Beach and Bal Harbour

Cons:
Could not check-in to assigned (tower) room until 7pm

None of the four pools were heated and no designated adult pool - This is definitely a hotel that caters primarily to families with small children and conventions, no longer a place for an adult, relaxing vacation

Slow/non-existent service in the breakfast restaurant: - The hostess and waitress were both very slow in service and the one server prepared all hot food for the self-service buffet. We stood at the omelet station for 15 minutes with many other guests waiting for food. After one morning of this, we left the hotel for breakfast for the remainder of our stay.

Still under renovation - Room had a distinct odor of fresh paint, and did not appear to be finished -- missing items: room service menu, working ice machines and minibar.

Given the many hotels options in Miami Beach we will not return to the Eden Roc

My husband, our 5 month old baby and I stayed 4 nights at the Eden Rock through Priceline. We were in room 928 on the 9th Floor. No balcony facing the bay, this was a wheelchair accessible room with large bathroom corridor and no bathtub. Good closet space, good bedding and nice furniture. The only problem we encounter and that had nothing to do with the room itself but with its location. We were in front of a service entrance where maids let it open by opening the lock, unfortunatly for us this door kept on slamming itself (never closed because of the lock coming out on purpose so it does not close for every maid to use) and we (baby included...) were awaken every morning by this constant slamming. I asked every day, please place a towel against the lock if you really need it not to close, but not at our expense. They did it, but we had to be awaken everyday at 8am and ask for it...We thought of changing room but with our priceline booking we would have ended up in the non renovated part of the hotel.

The hotel itself has been remodeled and is very nice and clean, the pool area is gorgeous.

One the minus :
-You have to pay for your internet access (you might have a shot of catching the free fontaibleau wifi depending on where you are located, but we could not)
-Food is below average and you have to wait a long time (pool area and "cafeteria")
-Strong smell of candles and flowers in the lobby (some people might like it, I personaly could not stay in the lobby for more than 5 minutes, too much for me)

One the plus side:
-Beautiful Pool Area
-Direct access to the beach
-5 minute ride to Lincoln road
-Clean and remodeled hotel
-Starbucks in the hotel
-Overall staff friendly

Would go back for the price we paid, but for my husband and I who have their own business and always have to be able to catch emails the fact that wifi is not free is a definite minus.

We stayed in the older section of the hotel- with the new rooms opening during our stay. Our room was large, great view, clean modern design with large bathroom and closets. The balcony was large with a wonderful view however the barstool type seating was awkward and unusable for enjoying the outdoor view of the ocean.

Dining choices are limited in the area- there are only a few hotels to eat at within walking distance. Eden Roc's choices were Italian and a grill. 4 small moitios and an appetizer of 3 shrimp ran us $80 +. We walked next door to Fountain Bleu and enjoyed an expensive dinner for 2 at Gotham ($500 for 2). I did enjoy a large salad and water by the pool- where the service was much better for $20.

While understandably still under renovations- there was not a sundry shop to pick up Advil or a toothbrush. Their web site showed the spa as closed for construction. On our day of departure we learned that the spa was open in another area of the hotel.

Eden Roc's biggest draw back is its lack of understanding the needs of business travelers. We asked the front desk to have UPS pick up our pre-paid (next day) UPS package on Monday when we arrived. The package did not arrive to our accounting offices as needed. It took several phone calls to the front desk and management AFTER our departure on Wednesday for the package to be located and picked up- arriving 3 days later than we needed.

My wife & I stayed here for a week. I'm a Marriott platinum, used points to stay. Got a complimentary upgrade to the newly opened tower, ocean view. Room is outstanding, large, with a very comfortable bed, huge shower, killer view.

Lobby is very nicely renovated, very modern. Tried both restaurants on the premises, both are good but overpriced, IMO. Can't complain about the food though. Valet parking is $30/day but if you eat at one of the restaurants, it's $12. Also, you can park at the city lot right next door, $10/day. If you find a parking machine that actually works, you can get a stamped ticket for the next day (rolling over past 6pm free deadline), that will save you an early morning 8am trip down to the lot to renew the meter.

Pools are excellent, very clean, have a newly renovated feeling to them.

Overall, I really liked staying here. Housekeeping is a bit hit or miss. One day they showed up at 9am, next at 5pm. Did a good job cleaning though. No fridge in the room.

I booked my room on priceline for 150 dollars which was awesome. We were on the 17th floor overlooking the ocean with a king sized bed facing the water a jacuzzi tub and great art deco detail. We opted for the cabana bar for dinner the first night since it was late and the food was awful but very expensive! The room was not the cleanest either- not gross but not the greates hair on the bathroom floorand the tub not great- i skipped the jacuzzi- also no refrigerators in the room. The rest of the hotel was great- awesome location on the beach and the pool area is also wonderful. We stayed during the yacht show which was also entertaining. I f you want to go to South Beach though you need to drive or take a cab. One other thing- our romm did not get cleaned until 7 o'clock in the evening. After a long day of being out and about it would have been nice to just go in our room to decompress but we had to wait for the maid to finish. If you can get this hotel at a discount for instance priceline it was great- but i would not pay full price for a room.

We loved the Eden Roc and hope to go again next year. The trip was a group of girlfriends, and we really enjoyed our stay. We got upgraded to an ocean-view in the new tower with a great balcony.

The infinity pools and hot tubs were great. Loved the beachside restaurant. Loved the boardwalk for morning walks.

Nice design, furnishings, and decor.

My only complaint is that you couldn't find a Diet Coke unless you walked a mile to another hotel or the Walgreens. The ice/vending areas on the floors should have a Coke machine - the only way to get one was to order it from Room Service - for $4. This is ridiculous. Also - there were no bottles of water for sale at the Starbucks or the Lobby shop.

Go to Emeril's for dinner (at Loews hotel), and Front Porch for breakfast (in South Beach). Van Dyke's on Lincoln Road was good for breakfast, but next time I want to go to hear the live jazz there.
