“Mom and teenage daughter trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

My 15 year old and myself were very excited for our Miami trip. Having been to Miami a few times before we thought we would try a different hotel. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we weren't aware the boat show was going on so the area and hotel was very crowded- foot traffic and car traffic. When we arrived at the hotel we were able to check in right away- before the standard check in time, which is always nice. We were put in the old tower. When we arrived at our room, they were painting it. We went back to the desk and they said they would stop so we could go in. We went back to the room but the stench of paint was so strong so we asked for another room. They said they could put us in the new tower. We were excited until they told me I had to pay a $75 upgrade fee for each night. Needless to say, we were annoyed and felt put out, but I paid the extra 75 so we could go ahead and start our mini vacation. The room in the new tower was extremely clean and quiet- great for sleeping. However, I found the attitude and service of the employees sub par, especially in relation to other Marriotts I've stayed in as well as other hotels. The only staff I found very helpful and nice were the men at the front door who got us our taxi and the guys on the beach were great also. The hotel is nice- big bar/lobby area which is enjoyable. A little too far away from the heart of SOBE (had to take a cab everywhere). The one major drawback is the building blocked the sun at the pool shortly after noon and blocked the sun on the beach shortly after 3pm..... That within itself will cause me not to return to this resort again.

Room Tip: choose the new tower, much cleaner and quieter... cost more but worth it

We have stayed here in the past because it is considerably quieter than many of. The hotel right on South Beach and it's a short ride by cab or by bus literally across the street from the hotel. The resort is beautiful with three pools including an adults-only and easy access to the beach and boardwalk. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful with excellent knowledge of area amenities. We usually stay in the tower rooms with balconies and they are tops. This time we were on a last-minute, four-day getaway and the new tower was booked. We ended up in a low level room facing the street. But it was quiet, good-sized and clean. A good deal for a lower price.

When one pays almost five hundred dollars a night one would expect the everything to be working and hopefully to be in the nice tower with a balcony ... We were in the old tower where our ice machine did not work , the ipod docking station did not work and the shower dripped all day and night likely causing another Florida sink hole ...
However the rooms are quite nice the beds are very comfortable and the pillows are fantastic although I think they are feather so if you are allergic to feather pillows and don't want to wake up in a coma then perhaps you should research this ...
We did not havve a balcony and I really wanted one ... our window did not even open ...
There are three pools I think although I only stayed at the adult only pool ...
We had one lunch at the hotel at the cabana restaurant where the food and service were good until we wanted our bill and she never came back ... so we just left ... she had our room number wo if it appeared on the room bill we would pay it if not she would have to earn to be quicker next time ... it was ther with the 18% gratuity so all worked out for her in the end ... not us ... still not satisfied with the service at a supposed five star hotel ...
We were going to eat at the 1500 degrees restaurant but the menu did not look appealing to me ... I guess because for breakfast I was looking forward to eggs benedict and they were not on the menu ... also a long line to get in and not a large enough patio ...
For the most part the staff were very friendly and helpful ...
Would I stay here again ? Not for five hundred a night no I won't ... I will look around for something else ... It was nice but not that nice ...
Also the elevators were very slow ... long waits ... now I'm just being picky but even some hotel staff were taking the public elevators which I'm sure slows things down even more ... not to mention the only went from the lobby to the mezzaine ... one floor and the stairs were right bloody beside them ... they waited all that time for the elevator to go up one floor !
Also with our ice machine not working we had to take the stairs up two floors to get to a working ice machine and the stairways were a mess , Ihave seen cleaner nicer stairwells in third world countries ... just sayin ... If its five stars you want there are a lot of details that need attending to ...

Room Tip: We were in 611 of the old crappy wing ... try to get into the new wing with a balcony ...

i stayed at the eden roc for 3 nights with 7 other girls for a bachelorette. the first thing i noticed upon arrival were the sheer amount of children running around the lobby. this was pervasive throughout the hotel.

the grounds and beach are beautiful, and i thought the service was excellent. i appreciated the adult only pool.

the location is just OK, as you need a cab to get anywhere else in south beach.

overall, i wouldn't go back here unless i had kids in tow.

This is a beautiful resort! We had a high floor ocean tower room with a large balcony. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Viewing the sunrise from bed in the morning was truly a unique experience. All of the staff at the hotel were friendly and attentive. The resort offered multiple pool options and a great beach. All were pretty, clean and offered drink/food service. Our only complaint was that most of the day there was some sort of new age type music playing in the pool area which we did not care for. The boardwalk was at the edge of the property which you can walk on all the way down to South Beach.

There are several dining choices and we enjoyed all of them. The prices are a bit steep, especially the drink prices, but everything was very good. The lobby is beautifully decorated and the circular bar in the middle of the lobby was a great place to have a drink. Gratuity was included in all food and drinks and we were pleasantly surprised that this did not affect the excellent service!

We would definitely stay at this resort again!

We stay at this hotel a few times a year, and recently, we have been very, very disappointed with the lack of customer service we have recieved. We were staying at the hotel for a special occasion, and as such, we called ahead to pre-authorize charges for one night to include room service. We had to provide credit card authorization FIVE TIMES to pre-pay for one night stay and to arrange for a birthday cake and flowers for one night but NO ONE followed through. To add insult to injury, when we arrived at the hotel, the front desk had absolutely no idea where our credit card information was that we faxed over numerous times, nor did they follow up with the problem or ask for a manager to resolve it. They simply said "oops, I don't know what happened." It was my responsiblity to follow up with the front desk the next day, and I was assured that the credit card information was received and would be taken care of. This shouldn't be much of a surprise, but I checked my credit card statement when I returned, and they had completely messed up the charges. I then spent over an hour trying to get somewhere with the accounting department who assured me that they would email me the necessary information to clear up the mistake--surprise, surprise, I have not received an email. The front desk refuses to find me a manager to speak with so I am just stuck leaving a message on a voicemail that doesn't even have a person's name attached to it. This is embarrassing customer service for a Marriott Renessaince hotel. As Platinum/Gold members for the past year, we are frequent supporters of the Marriott brand, but I am beyond disappointed at this point, and do not plan to support the brand when other options are available.

My two friends and I stayed here on our first trip to Miami. The hotel wasn't quite located as close to the action as we though. It was hard to find somewhere to eat apart from the Starbucks in the lobby without having to walk down to South Beach which is about a 20 minute walk away.

The room was meant to have a view which I assumed would be ocean views but it was of the estuary behind the hotel. It was still quite nice but not the beach which was expected. We were given 2 welcome drinks and 2 towel cards even though the room was booked for 3. The staff weren't willing to budge when a 3rd was requested.

The actual room was spacious and simplistic which I really liked. The rainforest shower was great and the bathroom amenities were quality Aveda products. Overall a solid 4 start hotel with room for improvement in customer service.
