“Not bad for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

Hotel is located on Washington Ave. one block from shopping on Collins Ave, 2 blocks from the Beach. It is apparent that some renovations and up dating have been done, but still more are needed. Hallway on first floor is a bit shabby. Entryway has been done nicely. "Continental breakfast" is really just cereal, coffee, and a few pastries. Room was nice with contemporary/art deco feel, platform bed with attached platform style couch and contemporary bath area, visible to bed. Steam shower would have been nice touch -- if it worked. Multiple shower heads were nice -- except the main spout went cool if you used the side spouts. TV had universal remote that made you flip through all the channels because most of the functions didn't work. Supply of bath products were a nice touch as well. AC was large vent over bath area and was extremely loud -- might keep some people awake, and I had to turn TV up to be heard. Kept room nice and cool, though. Staff was extremely friendly and James, the day person, was especially helpful. He did provide a small comp for the non-working steam shower. Not bad for a two day stay, walking distance (with comfortable shoes) to Lincoln Road. Down the block from fabulous Bolivar, previously mentioned in other review.

Room Tip: I didn't see an elevator so make sure to ask if you are going to be placed on upper floor. Also...

This hotel is in a quiet location, and was near to some wonderful restaurants. It is an old property and is in need of some rehab. But it is an incredible value if you are looking to save a few dollars. The only real downside of this hotel is the air conditioning. It is too loud and while it is running, too cold. Both my husband and I awoke during the cooling cycles several times to turn the air way down so we could go back to sleep, only to awaken drenched in sweat because of the heat. But if this doesn't bother you, the price and the convenient--free parking are well worth the price.

This hotel is awesome and right next to the beach!! It's great for couples that want a romantic get away as there is a steam shower and music that plays in the shower!! The staff was amazing and attentive. There are a lot of great restaurants in the area and the is a restaurant on Washington ave called Bolivar and they have amazing food!! There is a buffula restaurant on the corner and that one is not good. Back to the hotel the beds could be a lot better but they are not bad at all! I will go to this hotel again

We stayed for one night in June 2013. Can't beat the location....within walking distance of beach and food. Desk staff was very nice and helpful. They could use a little repair work..........we were in room 201 and the window in the bathroom would not crank closed which lets a lot of heat into the room and makes the steam shower pointless with an open window. Lots of peeling/falling plaster around the windows. A good value for the money and would probably stay there again. Free breakfast was fair.......nothing special really.

We stayed a few nights at the Hotel St. Augustine. It is very well located in South Beach, making it easy for walking along the main streets or exploring Miami itself (by car). Our room was huge, with a king-size bed. The shower was wonderful with a nice steam option. You should be aware that the washroom is entirely open and essentially part of the room. You should probably not share such a room with someone with whom you are not intimately close. The breakfast was excellent - fresh pastries with a Cuban twist. Although we loved this place, it does not have the atmosphere/luxury of most boutique hotels (or what some of the pictures can lead to believe). We would certainly stay here again.

This place is just starting to show its wear from what was likely a nice renovation several years ago. The walls are a bit bruised etc. and they don't quite keep it as clean as they could. For the right price it still makes sense. Parking was tight but also very convenient and easy. Location is quiet and it is an easy walk to a nice stretch of the beach, the madness of Ocean Drive and a few great places to eat (Big Pink). Again, hope they don't let this place slide any more than they have. No regrets, but not a "steal" either.

We booked this as it is recommended by Lonely Planet books. This hotel is perfect for exploring South Beach as it is so close. You can walk to the beach in just a few minutes, but it is still quiet so you can get a good nights sleep.
The staff were really helpful and give us good advice (and directions) on where to go and how to get there.
The rooms were great. They were very spacious with good big beds. Best bit was the huge steam shower.
I would definitely stay here again
