“Not a hotel...more like a motel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We unfortunately took it upon ourselves to book this part of our trip and not via our travel agent and learnt a very valuable lesson. What you see on the hotel's website versus what you get is completely different. We thought we would stay on Ocean drive as friends of ours said that is the place to be. Well, I bed to differ esp if you are travelling with children. We were supposed to stay 5 nights at this hotel but read further....

We drove from Orlando to Miami and were tired when we arrived in Miami. It took us 20 minutes in traffic on the 26 Dec to get from the port of Miami to Ocean drive, 1st nightmare. Ocean drive was packed with people, cars, bikes and people!!! We stopped outside the dingy looking Starlite entrance only be be harassed by the valet parking attendant. My husband said to him that we are checking into the hotel and need to offload bags etc. He bluntly said we have just 5 mins to do this. With 2 kids in tow and 6 heavy bags and a crowded street and sidewalk....we were not impressed. There is no bellman or porter at this hotel. I took 2 bags off the car and started walking in only for people to stop right at the entrance as Starlite restaurant is right there. I was blocked and even tramped on trying to get to the reception.

You walk past a bar 1st then there is a lady sitting behind the so called "reception", nightmare 2. We tried as quickly as possible to get bags out, checked in and went up to the 2nd floor. This hotels is extremely dingy and dark. We entered the room and saw that the door sides were badly damaged as was the walls. There was a fridge and micro in the room. The room had 1 light, no additional lighting. Beds were small and we stayed in New York and Orlando and never had this problem. The floors are tiled, no mats or carpets and we kept our shoes on as we did not want to walk without in the room. The bathroom was shocking!!!!! Dirty floors, the toilet did not flush properly, the hot water did not work, there was no clog for the bathtub. Eish a complete and utter nightmare.

My husband and I sat up till 1am (wifi was shocking) looking for an alternate hotel and eventually found another hotel and went to view those rooms just in case we were in for another disaster. We slept in our travel clothes, did not bath as there was no hot water and checked out at 7am from this terrible place. We told the man as the desk that we are checking out and only be charged with 1 night and gave him the reasons for us leaving.

Ocean Drive is not for families....fullstop. It is hectically busy, people everywhere mostly from South America, it's overpriced and ridiculous. A total tourist trap. Stay elsewhere on Ocean drive it is much better.

Room Tip: Do not stay here at all

Ok so location for Miami beach is great-but as are all the other hotels on Ocean drive. Room small and stuffy as-unusable unless aircon was on... and the worst bit... THEY EXPECT YOU NOT TO PUT TOILET PAPER IN THE TOILET!
We got into our room day 1 and go to use toilet, and after putting the smallest amount of toilet paper in the toilet it clogs and water rises to rim of bowl so cant try reflush as will flow out. Go downstairs to ask lady downstairs to send someone up-her response, "did you put the toilet tissue in the toilet?" me: "yes obviously" her: "oh no you need to put it in the bins not down toilets as the pipes are too narrow for it and itll block" me: mouth drops open.

NO WAY!
1. completely unhygienic and a health and safety issue.
2. gross-who wants toilet paper in the bin with the hot room making the smells fill the room
3. if the pipes cant handle the small amount of toilet paper from people-GET NEW TOILETS you own a hotel NOT a hostel or camp site
4. USA is NOT a 3rd world country and I cannot believe with the prices your hotel charged you find that acceptable!

Location was the only plus. Staff were ok other than that comment but not much care for your questions. Room small as stated and not much else going for it.

I wouldn't stay again and am still shocked about the toilet discussion!

My family and I stayed here for one night while in Miami. Staying on Ocean Drive was a must for us so that we could walk the strip and see the nightlife, eat dinner and have access to the Ocean.

Upon check in, I found that there was no bell man to assist with our luggage. My husband, who has a heart condition, ended up carrying what I couldn't...

Upon entering our double bed room, it was nothing more than a shabby room painted an off white that was yellowed and dingy with a picture window view of the brick building three feet away.

The bathroom was small with no counter space or shelves to place our personal items and the worst part of the bathroom... no vent! By the time the 3rd person got out of the shower, the whole room was filled with steam. (And the water pressure wasn't that great either). There was some small updates in the bathroom but as you will see from the pictures... the work was shoddy at best!

When we settled in to watch a little TV for the night, the TV had enough channels but ALL were extremely poor reception. The only good thing about this room... the beds were very comfortable!

We paid more for this room than I have for some hotels in NYC! Never again!

Room Tip: Don't stay here!

Location is the only reason to stay...

Rooms not ready at 3:30 pm! Staff dont give a s# about you and family, noisy, inside a bar, forget about cars, good luck if you sleep, no lobby at all, they ask for deposit in adv! Wow, i miss hotel chains...

Room Tip: Confirm not in the first floor, you will not sleep

Right on Ocean Drive so it is very convenient when going to beach or hanging around in the night. Parking is a bit husstle with very conjested road and limited space even for temporary parking for valet, but you have to deal with it if you stay on Ocean Drive and you need to park a car. Room was not too bad. Not very spacious but enough for single stay. The room had a micro wave oven but no fridge. The ice vending machine was right in front of my room so it was good.
No table clock in the room. Free Wi Fi.
You have to tell the hotel front 20 minutes before you need your car ready, because actual parking space is a few blocks a way and they have to bring your car from there to the hotel.

When we checked in the front desk lady, would not make eye contact. Then when she did, she was very rude. We arrived around 3pm and she said the room was not ready. But then picked up the phone and started "yelling" ( I'm using non swear word) at the house keeping staff. We did get into a room. It was NOT clean. There was make up on the towels, black hair on the towels along with dirty hand prints. We did check the bed and it "appeared" to be fresh. Oh, and let's not forget the "fight" going on at the front desk between hotel and restaurant person, trying to collect money.
I would NOT recommend this hotel. The only reason it is booked in my opinion is it's location. It is right on Ocean Drive across from the beach. But honestly, there are so many hotels to choose from this should ONLY be considered a LAST resort. Go to the Chesterfield- great staff, clean rooms and Very comparable in price.

Room Tip: Walls are VERY thin, noise level is high
