“Disappointed”

Doubletree Ocean Point Resort & Spa - Miami Beach North

I stayed at this hotel for a week on business and during my stay my room key demagnetized 4 times (it wasn't near anything that would demagetize it at any time), when I went to wash my clothes in the washer/dryer set they had available, I had my load in, soap in, and when I went to set the controls and start the load, the entire front face of the control panel fell off! Needless to say, it didn't work and I had to take my soapy clothes back out and find an alternate means of getting them cleaned. The hotel did nothing about it, other than send someone up to look at it, and that person never spoke to me or fixed it. I explained all of these problems to the hotel staff at the desk, both at the time they happened and at checkout, and got no response. The beds were nice and the rooms were clean, but if you expect good service and for the equipment associated with your room to work correctly, I'd take your money elsewhere for the price.

“Very good hotel except for smokers at the pool”

Doubletree Ocean Point Resort & Spa - Miami Beach North

We stayed at the Doubletree for four nights in feb 2007 during school vacation week. We rented a very spacious two bedrm suite and were very comfortable there with our four kids. The hotel was clean and modern. The kitchen was well equipped (there was even a side by side fridge with a water and ice dispenser in the door). The beds were reasonably comfortable and there was a lot of closet space. We purposely chose the north side of the hotel, and were glad we did so, since there was constant construction along the south side. The beach was nice. The fitness room was well equipped by hotel standards.

The only thing we did not like was the amount of cigarette smoking at the pool. This was February school vacation week, and the hotel caters primarily to families. When we sat at the pool, we were subjected to the almost constant unappetizing smell of cigarette smoke. While there weren't a lot of smokers, there were enough that we gave up on the pool after the first couple of days.

We would highly recommend this hotel to families, but would strongly suggest to hotel management that they consider banning smoking at the pool for the comfort and welfare of all hotel guests.

I just returned from my five day stay at Doubletree Ocean Point and had to write this review, as I could not stop laughing after reading the previous post. I think the shade.....not staying up.... was not the real issue. Sounds like something else failed to STAY Up.!
Anyway, the hotel is beautiful, it has this amazing bar overlooking the beach and the ocean. We stayed in the one bedroom suite with a balcony , and the construction did not bother us at all, as it appears to be in its final stages of completion. We did not even hear them.
The hotel is very clean and well appointed with marble and stone. It was a perfect place to relax, not too big and corporate and yet ,not too small where you feel cramped. The beach was also very clean.
We tried the room service and found the prices very reasonable. We were very happy with our hotel selection and would recommend it to everyone.

“Comically Horrific”

Doubletree Ocean Point Resort & Spa - Miami Beach North

Feb 26, 2007

I went to this hotel with low expectations due to the service I had received in simply trying to book the room and a spa reservation for the one day we would be staying.

Checking in was about the level of service I was expecting (not great). However, I was pleasantly surprised with the cleanliness and appearance of the hotel (I found it to be quite the opposite of the run-down or dirty hotel some previous reviewers have described).

When we began settling in is when the disaster began. The room did not have a balcony, so we decided to lift the window shades so we could actually see our ocean view. THEY WOULDN'T STAY UP! We had to tie the shade strings to a lamp and to chairs to keep the shades open. We then decided to open the windows for some ocean air -- they also WOULDN'T STAY UP! After they all came crashing down (this was not for safety purposes, they were just broken), we had to prop them all open with books. As we opened the ironing board, it too WOULDN'T STAY UP! In 10 minutes, everything we had attempted to use was broken and kept falling down! Thinking we must be on Candid Camera, we decided to just ignore it and go to dinner - after all, we were just going to sleep there and leave after showering the next morning, how bad could it be???

The night's sleep was horrible - my boyfriend's feet were hanging off the bed it was so small. Then our faulty alarm clock kept going off randomly from 4am-5am until we finally had to get up, pull the bed from the wall to reach behind and unplug it.

We had spa appointments the next morning prior to checkout. This isn't a spa review site, so I won't get into it. But, it was one of the most disastrous experiences I've ever had: let's just say it involved, among many other things, a staff member CRYING in the spa locker room.

We had a wonderful time in Miami Beach, but it was completely despite this hotel. It is very safe to say we will NEVER stay there again and would never recommend it to anyone.

“Over-priced and Yucky”

Doubletree Ocean Point Resort & Spa - Miami Beach North

a few things you shold know before you decide to stay here:
i stayed here and paid 275 a night for a one bedroom suite, plus 20 bucks for parking and all i have to say is that it was not worth it. After ariving after 4 am due to airline problems i couldnt go to sleep without doing a bed-bug check, thats how gross the bed looked. to my surprise it was fine. the only thing that was clean (as it should be) was the kitchen. i took a shower with flip-flops on so that my feet would not have to touch the floating pieces of mold. needless to say i couldnt even think of taking a nice relaxing bath. i called the hotel in advance to ask to be placed in a room opposite the construction next door. didnt happen: i had to sleep with earplugs (very romantic) and even then i could still hear it. and i am not a light sleeper i have an 18 month old, i can sleep through all kinds of noise. the only reason i didnt rate the hotel terrible was because of the extremely friendly staff and great service and the fact that having a bedroom and living room was very convenient. i think you should feel comfotable on vacation, and staying in this hotel made me tense- it was just a little too yucky. if it would have been 150 bucks a night that would have been a fair price. (maybe)
