We don’t usually write a review unless we have something nice to say, but in this case…

Yes, there is the nice beach-front location, but our stay at the Ocean Point the last week of this past January was marred by the consistently poor service, and often in-your-face rude behavior of the staff, from the front desk (Kathleen, do you what the word
“hospitality” means in the context of the phrase “hospitality industry”?) to the towel/beach hut. As an example, we had one incident on a warm sunny afternoon in which the team of 3 people “working” at the towel/beach hut absolutely refused to give us towels at 4:30pm, even though they close at 5:00pm (which in any case is too early). We thought they were just kidding, but their response to our politely asking a second time was for them to tell us they were “busy doing paperwork” and could not give out any more towels, even though they admitted to having clean towels in the hut. Inexplicably, they suggested that the people in the spa (back in the hotel) might give us a towel (they did). Absolutely incredible! But, incredible or not, with the exception of a few employees, this was the norm for the Ocean Point. We are really surprised that some have given this hotel a positive review. For $200+ per night, we expected better.

A few general comments: an umbrella and a pair of chairs will run you about $25 or $30 for the day; your room has about a 50% chance of being serviced, and the maid will forget to restock 50% of the items needing to be restocked (e.g., tea bags, another coffee filter, more soap, clean towels, etc.); if one of the staff doesn’t know the answer to a question, they will say “I don’t know” (period), and not “I don’t know, but let me see if I can find someone who does”; there is ongoing construction nearby; the rooms are dated, as is the hotel in general, though there are signs of some effort to update the common areas; the free apples were good.

My wife and I cancelled reservations at another hotel in the Miami area because of the Trip Advisor reviews and booked into the Ocean Point Resort. What a great choice! The ocean front room that we reserved was actually 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths! The room is just beautiful and the view is perfect (I'm writing this as I'm sitting in the living room watching the sun rise over the ocean). You won't go wrong staying here.

I loved everything about this hotel.

Its beach front, close to restaurants, nice food, the room was clean and the view from the balcony was amazing.

Very good for families with kids since the beach is quiet and calm.

The hotel is a litle far from the South Beach night life so if you want to do something at night you'd better rent a car or walk to a few stores across the street from the hotel.

Expect to pay extra for your beach service and for the fitness center facility.

Stayed here for a weekend... The hotel is right on the beach and convenient to shopping but be warned, if you're a light sleeper, book a room on the North side of the hotel as there is a new building being constructed to the south...We had a one bedroom suite and it was more than adequate... The bathroom is large with two sinks, a seperate shower and whirlpool bath...There is also a full kitchen... Overnight parking is $20 per night... FYI, this is a residential/hotel, so the services are not what you might expect at a 4 star hotel... My only major complaint was that upon check-in at 9:30 pm, I realized I needed another blanket and pillows.. I called guest services at 10:45pm and was told, " sorry, not at this hour" - I thought it was a hotel!?! I paid 259 per night which is not a bad price at this time of year, but would not stay here again until the summer months or if the prices dip down below $200, if I really need/want to stay in this area. Otherwise, there are many other hotels I would prefer as a first choice along Miami Beach which are further south, but away from the South Beach crowd...BTW, the bed is very comfortable( if you like soft beds), so I really don't know what the last reviewer was talking about, although they are right about the sleeper sofa... Didn't try room service or the restaurant, The View, since we cooked our own food which was a good bonus for us!

“Not worth the price”

Doubletree Ocean Point Resort & Spa - Miami Beach North

We stayed at the Doubletree Ocean Point Resort during the week between Christmas and New Years. The location was convenient with stores and restaurants nearby. The beach was excellent. There is also a market on the property that sells snacks and lunches to take to the beach. Due to the time of year, our rate was $369/nt. for a one-bedroom suite (with partial ocean view). If you choose to stay here, note that there are additional charges for extras. 2 beach chairs & 1 umbrella were $30/day, internet access was $10/day and parking was $18/day; so it really adds up! Overall we felt that the following areas were problematic and did not meet our expectations, hence the low rating; hotel service, room lighting, uncomfortable bed, terrible sleeper sofa (for our child), & cleanliness.
