We stayed for a week at the Doubletree with our 2 children, 3 and 6 yo. Overall, we had a great time at the hotel, beach, pool, and Miami. My one and issue is that the hotel is in need of an upgrade / renovation.
Our check-in went smoothly with a bonus of a warm chocolate chip cookie. The front desk warned us that our room would be on the small side and if we wanted, we could upgrade to a suite for an additional $30 per night. We decided to check out the room before upgrading. They were right. 2 queen size beds, a tv console/dresser, table and chairs were crammed into a very small room, leaving very little space to move around. Plus, everything seemed quite worn - the table's varnish had been worn through, the chairs were stained, the blinds were yellowed and dusty, and the bath was slightly moldy. Fortunately, we had the option to upgrade and moved straight to our suite. The suite was spacious with a living room, full kitchen, large bathroom, large walk-in closet, and bedroom. We settled-in nicely. However, the overall cleanliness of the room was not great . I always travel with Clorox wipes (admittedly, I'm particular about the cleaniness level) and gave the kichen, tabletops, bathroom, phones (the kids play with the phones) a good wipe down. The dryer was also filthy, but I called the front-desk and they sent someone right away to clean it up. By the end of the trip, I do believe the room was cleaner than when we first arrived. The one place I could not get clean, which we avoided all together was the shower stall, which smelled moldy and of pneumonia.
The pool area suited our needs and made the kids very happy. After 2 consecutive days at the pool, I noticed that it was getting cloudy from all the sunscreen and dirty with bugs and debris. I asked for engineering to come and skim the pool, but no one ever came. 2 days later when we went back to the pool, it was cleaner, but possibly because no one had used it the day before due to the rain.
The beach is also great, except for the fact that you have to pay for your chairs, umbrella, and cabana.
The restaurant has a great buffet and lunch/dinner menu. But there is so much great food in the area, that we only had a few meals at the hotel.
The poolside waitress doesn't provide the best service - it was faster to get some of the food myself or order directly with the bartender at the pool. Maria in the market also provided great service.
At the front-desk there's a fresh fruit basket where we helped ourself to an occasional orange or apple and occasionally a chocolate chip cookie.
