We had a wonderful time staying at The Raleigh and I can't wait to get back. That gorgeous pool and beautiful beach are calling me back! Kimberly Cotto was a delight and really helped us start the vacation off right and Adam, the bartender was really fun to chat with as well. All the staff was super friendly and helpful and we so enjoyed chatting the managers in the evenings!

We recently stayed at The Raleigh for six nights and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We have been to South Beach before and wanted to check this hotel out partly out of our desire to experience an authentic piece of Art Deco history. This hotel is a throwback in time and part of a vanishing piece of America and must be viewed in proper perspective, because if you are looking for cutting edge technology, you wont find it here. What you will find is an overwhelmingly friendly staff AT ALL TIMES of the day and in all services, whether it is the parking attendants, front desk staff, coffee bar or housekeeping staff. These are genuinely GREAT people--not just being nice because they are supposed to, but because that is the way they are. I've stayed at hotels in New York where the front desk staff doesn't even look up at you when you speak. We had wonderful reception from Elkin, Fernando, Michele, Keith and others.

The pool is incredible. Many vintage hotels in South Beach have small roof top pools, but I find them confining and unsatisfying. This is a pool you can actual swim laps in.

Our room was fairly basic and without an Art Deco feel to it, but it was perfectly comfortable and fine. While I would stay here again, I have two chief complaints--and they are particularly annoying ones:

1) The WIFI connection only lasts a short while and you have to continually monitor it to make sure you are still connected otherwise you will end up eating minutes on your own data plan. I found that annoying--especially having stayed there six nights.

2) Drinks from the pool bar are full of ice and a poor value. At nearly $23 each with tax and tip, I got fed up and ended up making my own in my room, despite asking--actually pleading--that they cut back on filling the cup up with ice. I even tried tipping extra to see if that would make a difference but it never did. The Martini bar however, is another story. It is somewhat hidden off the side of the restaurant and can easily be missed. The bartender Nash is GREAT. He will make you anything and knows his stuff. The bar itself is a vintage beauty with Art Deco woodwork. We discovered it late in our stay but wished we had known about it earlier. Its definitely worth stopping by.

As others have noted in their comments, this hotel is rumored to have been acquired by Tommy Hilfiger, so I'm not sure what changes may occur. I would consider staying here again--IF management can address the two complaint issues I mentioned above.

3rd or 4th time staying here over the past few years, last time 2 years ago was good, but seemed like some details were missing. This time was perfect. The service has really improved. Everyone here, from the valet, to the front desk, to the pool bar was super friendly and attentive and focused on the details. The pool is still as great as ever. Can't wait to get back-

This really is like walking into a Hotel anywhere from from 1930 - 1960 but although a lot of effort has been made to keep the "old world" traditional style modern it is backed up by hidden new technology. The rooms are great and again there is a very old looking shower with ornate taps but is in fact a really powerful shower, the flooring "Looks old" as in black and white tiles but it so well done and intentionally adds to the feel of the past. The lift is brilliant and makes you think who has traveled in this over the years as you think when you see the pool which looks straight out of the 1940's and has changed the sunbeds match but are really comfortable.

The staff where pleasant enough but it would have been good to have a bit more knowledge of the hotel. So walk through the lobby - look at the pictures of John Wayne, Marilyn, Diana and presidents etc doing the same and enjoy every minute.

The Raleigh has just changed hands and there is a lot of speculation about its future now that the new owner, Tommy Hilfiger, has enough money to do what it needs or at least what he wants. What he proposed sounds more like a restoration than a transformation. I hope that it will happen that way, that the old Raleigh with its subtle boutique luxury is retained. Yes, it needs some refresh in towels and furniture, fixtures and pool chairs. It also needs to retain its staff, who carry the tradition in the hospitality business more than the building itself with all its midcentury appeal. It is the professionals like Hillary, Lee, Catalin, Joan and Nesh that personify this lasting legacy, and the management should make every effort to keep them on board. Those are the people I remember and who remember me and make me want to come back.
Now about the stay. I can't say another word about the pool. I'd rather be looking at nit now.
We stayed in the Loft, which is just about the true penthouse as there is literally only the sky above. The view was magnificent though not exactly 360 degrees. You will be able to see the sun rise and set from the terrace. The room size was impressive and the light lit the room from three directions. The bathroom was very spacious, with a soaking bath and a smart shower. There were no sound proofing issues just because there are no neighbors. The bed was massive and comfortable, with very nice crisp linens. There is plenty of dressers and cabinets for everything you bring along. Do not set your bare foot on the terrace, wear shoes or slippers.
The restaurant Michael Schwartz keeps getting better. I really liked the local fish and vegetable dishes, French toast, the oatmeal. So you better hurry as the menu is updated weekly.
The Wi-Fi connection, however, is spotty and needs a good boost.
The Raleigh is an hairloom jewel surrounded by clusters of cubic zirconia. You’ve got to experience the real thing.

I stayed here with my wife for a long weekend. We had a great time and would probably stay there again if we come back to South beach, but there were a few issues.

First, I always deduct 1 star for a resort fee. It's a scummy practice, and didn't even seem to be that common among area hotels.

Second, the wifi was very spotty. That's unacceptable at a high-end, domestic hotel in 2015.

Third, in addition to the resort fee they charged $20 for use of beach umbrellas. So while the nominal rate of the room was $285, when you add taxes, the resort fee, taxes on the resort fee, and the umbrella fee, the real rate we paid was about $370, or an extra $340 over our four-day trip.

Lastly, they add an automatic 18% gratuity on all food and beverage at the hotel (to-go items from the shop downstairs like bottles of water). This is common in South Beach due (I've heard) to the high percentage of foreign visitors, but I still find it to be in poor taste. If you're worried about Europeans failing to tip, just raise your stated prices.

Besides the above issues, we had a great time. Our room was very comfortable, and the pool/lobby area is really charming and relaxing.

Dear Randolph314,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback and I am glad to hear that all in all, you had a great time. I will be more than happy to share your opinion on the Resort Fee with our ownership.

As for the wifi, we have heard and experienced the concerns and I am happy to say that our wifi is currently getting upgraded to a much stronger system with more access points which will eliminate the spotty coverage throughout the building.

Please feel free to contact me directly when your travels return you to Miami. I will be more than happy to assist with you with all your needs.

Kind regards,
Gilberto Garcia-Tuñon
