“Always a pleasure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

As a returning guest at the Raleigh, I was again struck by how wonderful the service is here, always friendly and unpretentious. Despite the rather small rooms, the hotel is comfortable and has all the required amenities. The Art Deco decor feels comfortable yet tasteful. The restaurant, located outside, beside the beautiful pool, serves healthy and delicious food very efficiently. The location of the hotel, close to Lincoln Rd and with easy access to the beach and the boardwalk, can't be beat!

When we checked into this hotel, we rode up to our given room with a member of the janitorial staff along with all of his equipment. There is only one elevator that services the hotel to the best of my knowledge. At any rate, we went into the room and it smelled terribly. The furnishings were old and dingy, similar to a cheap motel. The walls were paper thin, as each time the janitor opened and closed the service closet (next to our room, lucky us!) the room's walls shook. As I sat for a moment to glance at my surroundings, I found that there were stains that heavily resembled blood (of which I have photographs) on the curtains and rug. I decided that I could not stay in this room another minute. I was paying over $500 a night for this?! I am a frequent traveller who has stayed in rooms cheaper and more expensive than this, but I can tell you that this was the poorest excuse for a hotel room I have EVER encountered, bar none. We went back down, tried to explain the problem to the man at the desk, but it was his first week and he spoke little English. His manager was busy helping many others trying to check in or whatnot. He would not give us another room despite the fact that I had pictures of this filthy room. We ultimately left the hotel and found another. To this day, the hotel refuses to credit us back the money that we pre-payed for our room. FUN FACT: Our friends checked in the next day despite our warnings, and insisted to see the room prior to paying based on our experience that they reiterated to the manager at the desk. They ended up paying for a standard room and staying in the Penthouse Suite. Must have been their lucky day.....

Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us. We're very sorry to hear that the Raleigh was not what you expected and not up to your standards. Altough or hotel is an old-fashioned art deco property, with all that this entails, we do pride ourselves on having impeccable cleanliness and maintenance standards, as well as offering both personable and friendly service; however, it seems like neither of these were encountered, according to your experience, for that we extend our sincerest apologies and I will personally look into the matter. There are instances where, if the hotel stay is payed for in advance and through a third party, it is ultimately upto said party to effectuate a refund or not. Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like to discuss this and any aspects of your stay in further detail. Thank you again for your time and attention.

We stayed here and just fell in love with the hotel and the staff! Every person we encountered was helpful, delightful and made us feel like we were family! With in a few hours everyone knew our names, and it felt like we just clicked in as if we had been staying here for years. It was noticeable that other guess felt this way too as we never saw any upset or angry people (and you can always spot those on vacation) The rooms are comfortable and clean (although dated) but that did not bother is a bit. Big thank you to Bobby and Nash at the pool, Kimberly at the front desk and George the bellman! We will be back next year for sure!

I thought sbe would usher in positive changes.

Major operations issues during our most recent stay at the Raleigh. Granted, it was during the holidays (NYE week) but in my 18 years of returning here I've never experienced such disorganization. We had two reservations, booked months in advance, for continuous stays for the week - instead of our reserved midweek upgrade they downgraded our king room to a double ADA room with less space. The hotel was full so they could not do anything until the following day - and only after I emailed the front desk manager on her day off about the situation.

What else? Many angry folks at the front desk, rooms not ready on time and reserved rooms not being honored. I have serious billing errors on my credit card and still no response from sbe even after emailing and calling/leaving messages to the accounting office.

Shout out to Hilary and Bobby at the pool bar - always great.

Not exactly the relaxing, peaceful stays of past visits. I do hope they get their act together - but for now, we will be staying elsewhere in Miami. There are too many options available in sobe now and the Raleigh is simply not very competitive in it's price range.

Room Tip: ocean front or ocean view only

We had not been here for a year or more but what a difference in style. The Miami beach classic has taken a turn for the worse and is trying to be like any other hotel on Miami beach. Staff are already showing attitude and trying to be cooler than the people having dinner.

The food is OK but nothing special as the area in the back is as beautiful as ever. Clearly the hotel is taking a different direction but not to our liking at all. The rooms were the same and we understand a refurbishment is going to take place. Let's hoipe they keep the same style.

Thank you for taking the time to share and post your review. Your thoughts and opinions are of the utmost importance to us and we take everything you say very much to heart. There have been changes and updates to the Raleigh, especially in the past year, and you can expect a few improvements in the near future, our aim however, is to do this while preserving the identity and authenticity of the Raleigh. I'm terribly sorry to hear that you felt like the staff did not demonstrate the warmth and friendliness that they are known for and I will definitely look into this. We would love to have another opportunity to have you stay with us and rekindle your relationship with the Raleigh. Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss your stay in further detail and to assist you with future arrangements.

This city has so many places to choose from since all the recent new hotel openings. What's best about Raleigh is that it epitomizes miami beach, Florida and it's charm stands out among the other hotels. There is no flashy club scene, no ultra modern technology, and certainly no typical south beach attitude or lack if urgency with the employees. This hotel is the perfect example of why to come to Miami and that is to feel like you are in Miami, not to feel like Vegas or NYC which is what so many of these new hotels feel like. The people that work here totally care about service and it shows. We never had to wait long for our car, food, drinks or any request and everything we asked for was always accepted with a smile and friendly attitude. I love south beach because places like Raleigh still get it and that's why I'll keep coming back

Thank you for sharing your review. South Beach is a great and popular destination, and of course populated by a plethora of hotel options; we are glad that among all these hotels you've found the Raleigh to be just right for you. We are very proud of our heritage and history, the look and feel of the Raleigh are what makes us authentic and very much part of the history of Miami Beach. You are very valuable to us and although you're staying at a hotel and on vacation our aim is to make you feel at home. We look forward to welcoming you back and please contact me directly to assist you with future arrangements for your next visit.

Great hotel, great beach access, amazing pool! Ordered best burger I have ever had from room service, and very friendly bartender by pool bar even though weather was rainy and almost nobody else was outside. Would definitely stay here again!
