Certainly a cool hotel. Great lobby, chic pool, great ambiance. I agree that the rooms are nothing special (except the IPOD speakers which are a nice touch). Definitely worth a stay but not the only game in town. The Tides, Sigamore and Shore Club are also quite cool.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights at the Delano. The atmosphere is very chic the moment you step foot onto it's doorstep. The doormen and bellboys all wore immaculate white uniforms so you can always tell who they are. They helped us haul our 2 massive suitcases out of the taxi as soon as we pulled up.

The room we had booked had a partial sea-view and partial it was. Made us think if it was really worth the extra money. The room itself is completely white - from the walls to the bedding. The only colour in the room was a green apple which had it's own little shelf space by the door. Well my husband kindly explained to me this was what art deco meant.

I was disappointed with the bathroom as it only had a shower. Although it fitted in with the deco and feel of the whole place the shower was badly designed and water kept leaking into the bathroom area. Plus there wasn't a lot of space to move around.

The lobby itself was very chic, adorned with white drapes and funky furniture. It feels as though you're on the set of Nip Tuck!

On a Saturday night the place is heaving with people dressed up Miami style and the music blares out all the way into the pool area.

The pool itself is not big but more for posers than anything practical. However, there are beds surrounding the pools which you can laze on and the waiters constantly check if you're ok for drinks. If you don't fancy the hotel pool, you can walk onto the private beach area which has free double sun beds for you to catch some sun.

The location is also fantastic - right on Miami beach.

The Delano is a fantastic hotel. It is as visually stunning in reality as it appears on its website. We were there on honeymoon from 4-11 September. This is low season in Miami, but it was certainly busy enough for us, and we were always able to get good beds around the pool late morning.

The public areas in the hotel are gorgeous, and you feel pretty special knowing you're staying there. The pool area is relaxing and luxurious. The downside of the Delano is that the rooms themselves do not reflect the luxury and style apparent in the public areas. While the rooms are nicely decorated all in white, they just didn't seem polished - ie. a little too rustic for such a smooth hotel. The bathroom was also very small, and with no bath. For the very high rates the Delano charge, it's a pity that when a guest retires to their room the standard drops to what I would say is only around 3-star quality. A 5-star hotel should be 5-star throughout, and the Delano isn't.

That all said, we don't regret booking the Delano for a minute, and would definitely stay there again if a good rate was available.

One tip for those visiting Sobe is to make sure you eat at The Social, which is the restaurant in the Sagamore Hotel, which is just two doors away from the Delano on Collins Avenue. We sort of stumbled over The Social one evening and were blown away. It was so good we returned a second time during our week in Miami. The decor is all white, and very stylish, and the food is incredible. It's a fusion menu with small plates. A couple would perhaps order 5 or 6 between them. The skirt steak is particularly good, and the fish & chips in paper made us feel very at home! We would highly recommend it, and can't wait to go back.

Sobe on the whole is a brilliant place for a holiday, and we will definitely return.

  • Liked — The public areas, and the pool. Great location on Sobe also.
  • Disliked — Rooms were not up to same standard as public areas, and were not good value for money

The lobby and entrance is chic but it stops there. I travel a lot and have stayed in many hotels. Don't stay at the Delano.

The rooms are small, NOT modern, not well designed and have a dingy, seedy feeling. They aren't clean or new - the bathroom is far from luxury. The TV is a joke, and could be bought at your local goodwill store for $5 - seriously. SO Not worth the $400/night charge. Don't order the room service - food isn't good, and our orders were cold and wrong after waiting nearly an hour. The internet service was
non-existent - intermittent at best. I needed to work during my stay and working in the room was not an option. We cut our stay here short and are heading to the Ritz - hope that is better. Very disappointed. (Also - beware of movement on the bed as neighbors will hear it all.)

I did not stay at the Delano but just spent a few hours at the pool bar. Every Tuesday they have a "party" and spread a big buffett which included BBQ prawns, burgers and a host of other great food including dessert. The bartenders were very friendly and we had a great time. I probably wouldn't stay at the hotel given the cost, etc. but I will definitely be returning for a Tuesday night cocktail.
