The Delano is a fantastic hotel. It is as visually stunning in reality as it appears on its website. We were there on honeymoon from 4-11 September. This is low season in Miami, but it was certainly busy enough for us, and we were always able to get good beds around the pool late morning.
The public areas in the hotel are gorgeous, and you feel pretty special knowing you're staying there. The pool area is relaxing and luxurious. The downside of the Delano is that the rooms themselves do not reflect the luxury and style apparent in the public areas. While the rooms are nicely decorated all in white, they just didn't seem polished - ie. a little too rustic for such a smooth hotel. The bathroom was also very small, and with no bath. For the very high rates the Delano charge, it's a pity that when a guest retires to their room the standard drops to what I would say is only around 3-star quality. A 5-star hotel should be 5-star throughout, and the Delano isn't.
That all said, we don't regret booking the Delano for a minute, and would definitely stay there again if a good rate was available.
One tip for those visiting Sobe is to make sure you eat at The Social, which is the restaurant in the Sagamore Hotel, which is just two doors away from the Delano on Collins Avenue. We sort of stumbled over The Social one evening and were blown away. It was so good we returned a second time during our week in Miami. The decor is all white, and very stylish, and the food is incredible. It's a fusion menu with small plates. A couple would perhaps order 5 or 6 between them. The skirt steak is particularly good, and the fish & chips in paper made us feel very at home! We would highly recommend it, and can't wait to go back.
Sobe on the whole is a brilliant place for a holiday, and we will definitely return.
