“Worst hotel - overpriced, no value, dingy rooms, bad food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2006

The lobby and entrance is chic but it stops there. I travel a lot and have stayed in many hotels. Don't stay at the Delano.

The rooms are small, NOT modern, not well designed and have a dingy, seedy feeling. They aren't clean or new - the bathroom is far from luxury. The TV is a joke, and could be bought at your local goodwill store for $5 - seriously. SO Not worth the $400/night charge. Don't order the room service - food isn't good, and our orders were cold and wrong after waiting nearly an hour. The internet service was
non-existent - intermittent at best. I needed to work during my stay and working in the room was not an option. We cut our stay here short and are heading to the Ritz - hope that is better. Very disappointed. (Also - beware of movement on the bed as neighbors will hear it all.)

I did not stay at the Delano but just spent a few hours at the pool bar. Every Tuesday they have a "party" and spread a big buffett which included BBQ prawns, burgers and a host of other great food including dessert. The bartenders were very friendly and we had a great time. I probably wouldn't stay at the hotel given the cost, etc. but I will definitely be returning for a Tuesday night cocktail.

After hearing so much about this hotel from our friends and family, my husband and I decided to check out this hotel. We were in SoBe to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary and the hotel took great care of us. We were upgraded to a partial ocean view room and received a bottle of Vueve Clicquot! While we waited to check in there was an attendant offering chilled homemade lemonade to everyone. Everyone at the hotel was super friendly and went out of there way to chat with us. It makes a big difference to smile, be courteous, and to tip everyone who assists you. If you give attitude at this place, you will get attitude right back at you. This is a funky hotel with uber modern decor so if you don't think much of that type of decor then of course it will seem stark and weird to you. The room was not huge but was very well decorated, everything was white! The floor, sheets, desk, tv, chaise, and even the tv remote were all white. Bathroom was small, shower is poorly designed so water goes everywhere in the tiny area. On our last night, the air conditioning unit leaked so the floor near the door was all wet. The wet floor is a big deal b/c the room is NOT carpeted, instead it's just painted white over smoothed cement so the entire room gets slippery. There were no slippers in the room so we had to wear our beach flip flops in the room at all times. Pool service and beach service are great, try to get there early and get a beach bed. Trick is to tip the beach guys and they'll save one for you so you don't have to get up early. The beach area is well maintained and even though it is a public beach, Delano does the best they can to keep non-hotel guests away. The pool area tends to get noisy and crowded with loud children, but the staff walks around with frozen grapes and pink lemonade to keep you cool. I don't understand why the cabanas are so expensive, $350 a day but they do have tv's in them so you can listen to music or watch a movie while lounging by the pool. Food is outstanding. This is a pricey hotel so be prepared to spend. The atmosphere at night is very hip and the music is pumping so if you didn't come to party, go stay at the Ritz. I am a big time spa snob, so the Agua spa seemed very basic to me. I had a a great deep tissue massage and a hair treatment for $223 including tip so it was pretty reasonable. But the amenities were very average, there are no treatment rooms per se, just curtains separating one area from another. The locker room is well supplied but the shower pressure is not that great and it took a long time for the hot water to come on. The hotel needs to be renovated b/c all the partying that goes on inside of it is begining to take it's toll. The funky furniture is starting to get worn down. Overall, this is a good to great hotel and I would stay here again but will try to get a bungalow by the pool b/c they looked really nice and spacious. One last thing, be sure to keep your hotel guest card with you at all times, this identifies you as a hotel guest so it allows you access to the pool, beach, back into the hotel, and to make charges to your room.

The hotel was way too over priced for what it offered. The rooms were small and loud, and you could hear everything going on in the rooms down the hall. They blast music outside at night so a city view room might be the way to go. It is definitely a "celebrity crowd" with good people watching at the pool, but the rooms and services offered do not warrant any where near 390 a night.

Timeless elegance and an ambiance that cannot be replicated. The Delano has an incredible pool area and lounge that is surrounded by great looking people, topless women and lots to just look at. The night time belongs to the Delano. Loud, sexy music fills the bottom floor with 30' sheer drape linens blowing in the wind. Beautiful people and incredible food at the blue door restaurant in the lobby. The rooms are a bit cramped and stark but the reason to stay at the Delano is that it IS the place to be in South Beach. If you dont stay here - you will be missing out on the night life. If all you want is a comforable, quiet room - better try the Ritz next door.

You are paying for the atmosphere at the delano. Very cool scene at night. I was there for business on a Tuesday night and still had a good time by the pool. Rooms were not anything very special. If you are into night life, stay here.

Unfortunately our exeprience was not that great. Just a few points we were
really disapointed about :

- our toilets were twice filled up, and the room service left all the
dirty towels on the floor
- some of the clientele ordered personal escort girls by the
poolside and concluded business in front of all the clients - even more, we were shocked that the pool + bar personal knew the escort girls very
well. Is this personal Delano offers ?!!!
- whats for the extra 15 $ for the umbrella at the beach ?
- in general the rooms are small, the general service is not so good and everything is very expensive ( i would rate the service as a 2 - 3 star hotel) not worth staying more than 2 nights

I would just advise you to go there for a drink by the pool at night, or a dinner, lunch, brunch because the food is amazing !
