It may have been in the Movies but it certainly is no star. Our room was small and had an usual odour, I thought it was original 1930,s polish, my partner thought it smelt like something was dead in the room!!! We shared our room with three other inhabitants whom we had never met before:- Bertie - a very big black bug of some sort, Micky - a grey mouse with an ability to move sealed bags of biscuits across the storage unit and Colin -- I will leave you to work out what/who you think he was. We did not eat or drink at the Hotel mainly due to the prices and pushy staff. Valet parking was a nightmare - once we had found out what to do, getting our car back was another issue. We gave the recommended 20 minutes notice but 50 minutes later we still were without car --they had phoned the wrong reference number through apparently!!
The only good point was the beach across the road. The hotel is overated and over priced.

Room Tip: Try and get a beach front suite good view but noisy

Dear Guest,

I will inform our Housekeeping Supervisor regarding the smell. We do contract with a pest control and exterminating company, but I will let them know there seems to be a problem. More often than not our valet service is of great convenience to our guests given the difficulty with parking and the traffic congestion on the beach, but we are sorry for the inconvenience. Please note that although the restaurant is on the premises, it is independently owned and operated. Thank you for your feedback.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights after taking a cruise. The hotel was recommended by a friend. When we got there, they gave us a beautiful suite, however, there was NO HOT WATER. We complained to the hotel staff but they weren't very helpful. The best thing about this hotel is the location. Other than that, you should save your money. Stay somewhere where you can enjoy a hot shower.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying with us. The rooms do offer hot water, nonetheless we regret the inconvenience. We will address this with the engineering department so matters like this can get expedited in the future.

I was absolutely APPALLED by the valet service and the restaurant downstairs. Our car was returned dirtier and dirtier every time by the valet guys. One time it had sunflower seeds on the seats (we don't even eat that), next time it had a gum (CHEWED!!!) stuck to the leader. REALLY?!?!?!? Then the restaurant is a nightmare - super pushy and salesy, ridiculously overpriced and not that great quality. They tried to overcharge us for 2 things that we didn't order (total of $50 overcharge), eventually we got in a huge argument and they took them off the bill.

You get what you pay for - it is a cheap hotel in the middle of South Beach. So you are paying for location. The rest is more of a 1.5 star hotel in Europe - small rooms, tiny bathrooms, stand-up shower, no tub, if you put your suitcases on the floor you won't have space to walk between the beds. Also, not really hot water, at best it was kind of warm.

It is very loud, VERY, you hear everything in and outside. No view, your window faces other buildings' A/C systems, no fresh air, windows don't open. Beds were tiny and super uncomfortable.

The hotel is 2.5 stars, I didn't expect the Ritz but I expected a stellar 2.5 stars. As a comparison I stayed in a 2.5 stars in Key West and was SUPER happy with the experience.

Terrible job COLONY - I will NEVER stay there again and I wouldn't recommend it to no one!!!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your feedback. While the valet is a convenience enjoyed by most, we will be sure to address the handling of the cars with the valet staff. We will also address the hot water issue with the engineering department. The restaurant is on site, but it is independently owned and operated. Please do contact the manager directly should you wish to discuss these items in more detail.

For someone with an interest in art deco architecture, it was a pleasure to stay here (and help pay for the preservation of the building). Hotel is a gem, but it is not modern. In talking to the desk clerk, found out there are regulations preventing any changes that would affect character of the building - which I was glad to hear. I had reservations about staying in a hotel almost 90 years old, but I saw no evidence of bugs and the hotel was clean. Bathroom was small - but that is the way things were 90 years ago. The beds creaked, not sure why, but that did not impede my sleep. Location on the "art deco" strip was wonderful. My first time to South Beach, but not my last!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for staying with us. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the architecture as this is a great part of the charm in our hotel. While we do make continuous changes and upgrades to the rooms, we are indeed restricted by just how much we can change due to the historical nature of our hotel. We hope you will choose the Colony again during your next visit.

My husband and I stayed at the Colony for a weekend prior to going on a cruise with our family. We had never been to Miami and wanted to have the South Beach experience. The location was great ! We took an art deco walking tour which was very fun and interesting. The hotel was in the heart of South Beach which was great. The hotel rooms are small and the service at the hotel was nothing to write home about. I felt the value was pretty good, mainly because where the hotel is located. We did not buy a drink or eat there but most of the bars and restaurant's alcohol prices were crazy expensive. We did get sucked into buying one of those big 45.00 to 55.00 dollars drinks which is really crazy. We had a good time and enjoyed the experience.

Room Tip: Does not matter what room because they are going to give you what they want!!

The location is good I will say. My husband who is italian enjoyed the friendly staff and they could converse in his native language. The room had an odd odor. I'm not sure if it is the cleaning solution or a particular spray but it wasn't pleasant. We had a room on the first floor and in the front of the hotel. It was very noises and the air conditioner was loud. We had to turn it off to try and get some sleep. The BED!!-atrocious. Hole in the middle of the mattress and the bed creaked every time you turned or moved. The toilet would also run during the night. I would not stay at this hotel and would pay some extra money for a nicer one down the street. Oh I had to kill a few flying gnats. Not a good experience.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

Great location, right on Ocean Drive, lots of life and beautiful cars cruisibg the drive from around 16.00 till 05.00, pretty noisy to sleep, we had an Ocean Front Suite with the best views, water taps the wrong way round? caused a bit if confusion, Clerk mostly asleep during the mornings. Big drinks, big bills. The restaurant below the hotel is separately run, very bad value, go back from the Drive two blocks for good food at much better prices.
