“Great location, good hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 17, 2014

This is right where you'll want to be, on South Beach. It's close enough that all of South Beach is in walking distance, but not in the middle of the noise so you can sleep easily at night.

The hotel is nice. It's not fancy, but it's clean. I didn't spend much time in the hotel, I was busy running around Miami. The cable channels are limited. I missed a basketball game that was on TNT/TBS. That's a basic cable channel. I didn't go to the bar or the pool and the food options were ridiculously priced. They only have 8 parking spots so you'll probably park in the big garage two blocks north. $16 a day. They charge a "resort fee" for wifi, that's a joke. But the wifi was strong enough for my three devices.

Arrived earlier than expected happy to get early check in but was charged a resort fee upon check in...? Resort fee really this was more like a $20/nite motel.... Ive been to miami plenty times i can honestly say this was the worst! continental breakfast haha no more like "pay per eats" bed comforters had make up from previous guest. Air conditioner was blowing out warm air not to mention THE WINDOWS DID NOT OPEN so we were smothered television only had 5 channels available and when asked what happen to the other channels listed their response was "your in Miami who needs TV" then sent a man who didnt speak english to the room to fix the phone that didnt work..... We asked for towels after visiting the pools at 2pm. three calls later and a walk to the front desk finally got towelsat 1134p.m. Reps sitting at front desk playing on phone. If they didn't charge my card I would have demanded a refund!!!!!!Horrible service nothing g like a resort

This hotel was the worst ever I wouldn't refer this hotel to anyone. Customer service was horrible the phones didnt work we had to call the the front desk from are cell phones it took them almost 12 hours to give us extra towels for room.and then when we call front desk about the channels on tv they said they would send someone up in 15 mins never sent anyone. Then when we got tired if the wait webt to front desk for them to tell me its miami and people don't watch TV and they can't do nothing about the channels. anyone

good location. room small but adequate. shower-toilet very small and inadequate. hardly any room to put your shaving cream and deodorant etc. not even a place to put the soap bar to keep it from falling in the sink. 2 very cheap towels that dont absorb water and a shower with such low pressure that it takes a long time to shower and still not feel clean.

i am always surprised by mandatory extra resort fees that i dont notice on travel reservation sites when i book. here $14.14 per night and says for pool access, wifi, breakfast etc. then further down its says $6.95 for breakfast, even that is just a danish and coffee sitting at 5 bar stools in the lobby. by the way, the wifi that you just paid for only works in the lobby

there is a pool with space for about 20 people to sit around but its in shade for most of the day. i went to the beach instead which is 5 minute walk. so much for resort fee

overall, it's good if the price is right and you don't care much about lousy shower, and don't plan to use the pool or prefer to use the pool in shade. location is the only good thing.

Room Tip: if you can afford it, stay at the Loews, a much nicer but more expensive hotel. If you stay at the C...

Bed sheets are wet because of humidity and lack of proper ventilation in the room. We are ok with the south beach parties and stuff but the walls are paper thin and you hear every other movement in the corridor. We couldn't sleep all night. Desk stuff seemed very boring. All stuff in the room is very old and whole hotel needs to be renovated. Don't come here even if you look for cheap hotel!!!!!!!!!

GREAT PLACE, IV BEEN TO SOUTH BEACH OVER A DOZEN TIMES AND THE CARLTON IS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES, Especially for the $$ (I've stayed there 4 times) GREAT, PERSONABLE, SERVICE (Amin the bartender is an awesom character; - he would address me 'VIVA CHICAGO" as a friendly greeting when I passed by, even if I wasnt buying a drink at the time, CJ and Naomi at the front desk are very personable and professional, as is the whole staff) U CANT BEAT THE LOCATION..... , AND FOR THE HOTEL'S ALLEGED SHORTCOMINGS...... Nobody will ever confuse the Carlton with a 5 star resort, but SOBE IS NOT THE VEGAS OR CANCUN STRIP....... a five star resort-type place is not the quinticential SOBE experience, that is what adds to the SOBE cache..... I REALLY WONDER IF PEOPLE WHO HAVE MADE NEGATIVE COMMENTS KNEW WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN VISITING SOBE..... smaller older hotels is what it is..... and alot of them suck!.....THE CARLTON IS A NICE CLEAN PLACE.....WITH A NICE PRIVATE POOL, A RARE COMMODITY IN SOBE.... U can also lounge out on a comfy chair in front of the hotel and people-watch as the masses of walkers, weirdos : ), and vehicles pass by thru the day and night..... SOBE has a few resorts, but expect to pay $400-600 per night, especially in season, ..... U GET OUTSTANDING VALUE AT THE CARLTON.... AND YOU CANNOT BEAT THE LOCATION

Great location, rooms spacious and bed surprisingly comfortable. However I feel the negatives far outweigh the positives.
Walls are paper thin, you could hear your neighbours shenanigans all through the night. The room amenities listed a mini bar, it did not exist at all not even a fridge. Phone didn't work, iPod Dock didn't work. No towels in the room upon check in, annoying when you go to have a shower late at night and find no towel! Front desk staff seem bored. My partner asked for a taxi one evening to get to the miami heat game. Taxis did not answer so the guy behind the desk just told us to hail one down. I went and asked if there were any other ways of getting to the arena as it was impossible to get a taxi and he told me no, he couldn't think of any other way (there is a bus FYI). Seemed too lazy to care. Bag storage is just behind their desk, not exactly secure. And finally a camera was definitely left in the safe, along with (I think) a phone. It took 2 emails for me to even get a response from the hotel and the response was sorry not found! Not sure what has happened to the camera now but I hope someone is enjoying it! Overall, I would not stay here again. Price is embarrassingly over the top and the service is worse than that I have received in 1 star hostels in South America.
