These are trying times for the staff of this hotel because there is a ton of construction going on. The staff tries to put you in rooms that are less impacted by the work (thank you). You can't access the beach from the rear of the hotel. You have to go out the front door and walk around the building. Not a horrible situation, but just something to bear in mind. There is a shuttle that they provide to other sister hotels which is very nice.
The tiki bar is something to skip at this point. It is a lone island in the middle of construction and scrubby landscaping. And the beer was warm (an unforgivable sin to me). I could forgive the noise of jackhammers, and the sad landscaping, but not warm beer. Bleech. Can you lower the cooler temp to say 33 degrees? If you book your stay after Sept 2013, I would imagine that this will all be moot.
The restaurant is pretty good. The meals are tasty, affordable, and the staff is great. But it's a chain, so don't go expecting a "taste of Miami". The breakfast buffet was very good.
The biggest impression we got was that the staff here is the friendliest in Miami. They are the best that Marriott has to offer. Every person greeted us with smiles. They were helpful, polite, and well informed.
