“Great location, Room and Staff not so much”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

The Shelborne just finished a huge makeover in some of their public areas and it looks great. Unfortunately, outside of the lobby, bar and pool area, you're still left with the crumbling, cheaply finished outdated rooms they had to begin with. The location however, cannot be beat, 90% of your $$$ is going to that.

The staff doesn't' keep up. Elevators and hallways are filled with dirt and garbage for hours. Depending on the weekend and neighbors, you lungs will be filled with the secondhand smoke of the rooms around your or the sounds of arguing guests.

The reception desk is rather clueless, they do not seem to be aware of anything that is going on in the hotel so they cannot direct you to the events. some are friendly though.

The restaurants are a different story. Lucy's Cantina serves up some great tacos poolside. Vesper Brasserie, which initially looked sketchy until we went through the kitchen into the true dining room was a hidden gem. The restaurant serves fantastic upscale comfort food with great service in an elegant setting.

Room Tip: Confirm photos and exact room number in your reservation.

Recently we stayed in this hotel because my sister was visiting. We had two rooms and rented a private townhouse. We parked our car on Friday, July 13, 2012 and retrieved it on Sunday, July 15, 2012. The valet not only stole two pairs of sunglassess, our ipod out of our gym bag and the GPS that we used to get there. The worst part is that the hotel continues to direct us to the VALET manager a Mr. John Perez. After contacting Mr. Perez we have had no response to our previous phone calls, messages, text messages and E-mails. We have also tried to contact the hotel's management and they could care less. TAKE MY ADVISE!!!! This is not the place to stay, at least if you want to leave with what you came with.

CRamirez.

Do not let some of the bad reviews scare U away from the Shelborne. There is new management, new people, $40 million in renovations, and the rooms keep getting upgraded every day. I held a week-long ocean science meeting where my attendees stayed here, ate here, and we met in their conference room. I have been involved with meetings all around the world and I would strongly recommend the Shelborne to any group. Their staff went out of the way to help us have a great meeting and were very honest about the hotel. Given the very high prices on the beach the Shelborne offered us an affordable deal. Yes, the rooms are a bit small, it is an historic hotel after all, but the ocean views are stunning. They moved the one person in my group that did not like his room without a problem. The food was excellent at the conference center and at the restaurants. the wireless here has been upgraded and it handled my group who were downloading results from large computer simulations of ocean circulation.
Most importantly, you are in the middle of it all, the multi-cultural excitement of Miami Beach.

I recently planned a trip to Miami for my cousins bridal shower. We stayed at the Shelborne Condominiums 7/2/2012-7/8/2012. I booked the condo thru a company called American Vacation Living. They had photos of the hotel as well as the condo accommodations. They looked great! The condo was being presented as a 3 bedroom condo that sleeps 8 with a kitchen, stove and refrigerator for a home like feel. When we arrived, the room(s) were not at all what I expected nor what was presented in photos or conversations had with the booking rep. The three bedroom condo was just one small hotel room, with a wet bar, hot plate, and the rest of the room sectioned of by divider walls. Two twin beds in the first with a small 19'' flat screen sitting on top the make shift partition, and the second room with two twin beds, the third held 2 king beds, two full size futons with a table down the middle. Above sat a 50" flat screen with wires all over the place. Hanging on the wall in the make shift hall was another 50'' flat screen with crazy wiring. The place wasn't clean. I immediately called the manager of the unit, Nikki ,to let her know of the lack of cleanliness and the disappointment of the room size. I cant understand how they can legally rent a room this size to eight people. The room had extra external outlets which were encased along the walls everywhere. The first two rooms had extension cords ran along the wall to the middle of the beds to light a lamp and for use for anything else. The power began to shut off if we used the hot plate, curling our hair, charging our phones. One of the ladies was in the shower and slipped when the power shut off. This occurred 5-6 times during our stay. The manager of maintenance, Maria came to our room and was a little irritated, having to keep going to the breaker and resetting the power constantly. She made it clear the the hot plate was illegal and we weren't to use it anymore. I had to explain to her that this is how this room came and was part of the accommodations. We no longer used it . I had just went to Publix to stock our room for lunch and snacks. Because the power going off constantly, our food spoiled. This is by far the worst vacation I have ever had. #620 looks good on the net, but its horrible place.

Room Tip: not room #620

The hotel was amazing. The rooms were clean, very comfortable but the valet parking employees were HORRIBLE! They stole the radio antenna from my car, they were disrespectful, definitely the worst part of this hotel. Very disappointed with their service

Day of arrival was asked if we wanted to upgrade to a remodel room for an additional $100.00. Decline upgrade took our chances with a non-remodel room. We were not disappointed with the room selection. Had a King size bed and was very surprise to have a beautiful ocean view. Shower was horrible but we made it work for the three days two nights. Toilet was funny. Could not figure out why I could not get comfortable, then I realize the toilet was the same toilet found it an office building or department store. It had no back, lol. Bed was comfortable. Room was not the best but it was a non-remodel room. Room had a dummy A/C control. You do not control the A/C. Had to keep curtains closed to cool room off. It was delightful communicating with Front Desk (Gabrielle) very professional. Concierge (Rafael) was a delight to communicate with as he tried to book tours for us during our stay. Swimming Pool was always crowded but closed at 8:00pm. That was quite time when we were in the room. Housekeeping came everyday but we decline because we clean the room ourselves with Lysols wipes, Scrubbing Bubbles wipes, and bed bug spray. We always use our own linen and towels. Hotels have too many germs and we sleep and feel better.

Room Tip: The room we had was fine for the time. Cannot promise you will receive the same type of non-remodel...
