“Not so good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

We spent 4 nights in this hotel. The location is a bit off. The rooms are getting old. The pool is nice. The beach is also very good. The breakfast is standard. On the street there is a car rental. For the location and facilities, the hotel is too expensive.

We started our journey to Key West here in Miami Beach for two nights. The hotel lobby and property are very nice, the rooms are a step down-very average and a bit worn out. We found the beds very clean and comfy and the showers were nice (those great HI shower heads, that is-otherwise very worn). The bathrooms are rather industrial, more like a public toilet w/ bare pipes, and somewhat unappealling. We did not eat on site, so no opinion. Overall we felt a decent value, mainly due to the location and property aesthetics. But for those 5 star ratings on this site, not sure what they're comparing to! This is a solid 3-star hotel, that's not intended as a put-down.

We did some background in advance so knew what to expect, and were not surprised (but still disappointed) that 1) no fridge in the room and 2) even though we had a beachfront room, the property for some odd reason never included balconies! Just a couple big non-opening windows (randomly screwed shut, w/ some screws falling out, not very aesthetic). One grumpy guest who assumed he'd have a balcony spent some time complaining to the front desk. It would be nice if the hotel and website made this clear (without asking) when you book the room, to properly set expectations.

The beach here is ok, pool is fairly standard, but like all hotels nearby get shaded pretty early due to all the tall buildings.

We found all the staff very friendly and professional, including the valet parkers, who gave us some great dining tips (Sazon Cuban Cuisine-excellent!) . Although, on three separate occasions I called the front desk (from my cell) and no one answered, just rang until finally getting disconnected. Kind of odd.

A final note on parking; valet or pay to self park (about $25/day +/- either way). This is standard for this area. We paid $27 included in our room price. If you are going to come and go, do the valet, otherwise you'll have to pay the daily fee each time you come and go, instead of just a $2-$4 tip to the valet.

Overall, if you know what to expect here, you'll be ok...otherwise, assumptions may leave you disappointed.

Room Tip: No balconies even on oceanfront rooms. Also no fridge. Use valet parking.

Prices in Miami Beach, Fl. can be very expensive. We chose the Holiday Inn because it was moderately priced and had a recognizable name and parking was included in the cost of our room. The hotel was just average. No significant issues, but we did wish that our room had better lighting. The breakfast brunch was good. It was nice having such quick access to the beach. I would stay again. Considering prices in Miami Beach, it was worth it's cost.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a ocean view.

We arrived at 1 p.m. By taxi from MIA. We were surprised that no one offered to take our luggage!! However, besides the noise factor (spring break week) we were quite pleased with this hotel. The staff was superb - beginning with Lucy who checked us in and recognized our Platinum status - to Kaira in the restaurant, who is a wonderful waitress ! We ate lunch and dinner in the hotel restaurant and were pleased with both meals. Prices were reasonable -at least to we New Yorkers!
Our room was spotless. We were on the fifth floor, with an "ocean view" thru the palm trees. We were pleased to receive two bottles of water and a small amenity basket, hand delivered by a maid. I have a pet leave about noisy a/c, and hate when they cycle on and off instead of constantly blowing air . This, however, was my only problem with the room. The pool was very chilly- however the adjoining property's pool was nice and warm, and didn't seem to mind the HI people there for a bit. There were plenty of towels available.
The workout room was small - one treadmill, one bike and a wt machine. Plenty of water and towels. They really could use an elliptical there, or even another treadmill.
The location is not to be beaten, and as we used points for this stay, neither could the price! We would not hesitate to use this hotel again, or recommend it to others. (Our usual hotel is choice per-cruise is at the IC Miami- but due to late booking and a huge festival in Miami we couldn't get that hotel)

Norwegian Cruise Lines pointed us towards this hotel and we were quite pleased. I've had several vacations that got off on the wrong foot by the airlines, so I wanted to get to Miami a day ahead. This is a perfect choice. The price (through Norwegian) was right.

We took a taxi from the airport. Registration went smoothly. Loved the palm leaf patterned carpet. The room was more than adequate - not luxurious, but it was clean, attractive and had everything we needed. I loved the smorgasbord of pillows labeled with firmness.

We were there on a Friday night and they had a nice event in the bar - samples of wine, cheese and bananas foster. But it was National Margarita Day and we wanted to experience the boardwalk. LOVED strolling the boardwalk which was right behind the hotel.

There's a restaurant with a buffet in the lobby, but we didn't try it. It seemed pricey for breakfast, so we went to the Subway down the street.

The pool area was attractive, but we didn't really have time to swim. The gym was nice, but Saturday morning it was crowded, so we walked on the beach instead. The beach is lovely. The vegetation on the dunes was a surprise to me. I sort of envision hotel, pool, beach, water. Between the pool and the beach is the boardwalk (remember I loved that) and over-gown dunes. that may be normal where you're from, but it was odd to me.

The Norwegian shuttle came as promised and on time. You're minutes away from the pier.

I'd recommend this hotel to others and I'd return to it myself.

I stayed here for 4 nights/3 days with my bf and we enjoyed ourselves; Miami is overall very pricey so nothing was unexpected i.e.) ridiculous valet parking charges. We loved the pool and beach, especially the boardwalk (took great jogs along the water). I loved how close Collins Ave was to restaurants; Lincoln Road was amazing as well as Ocean Drive. Breakfast at the hotel was delicious as well as the food at the tiki bar. Very disappointing gym...glad we had nice weather to go for jogs. We had to flush the toilet 2-3 times in order for anything to go down which was a bit annoying as well. Overall for an 'affordable' Miami stay, it was certainly worth it.

Room Tip: If you want good sleep, don't go during Spring Break!

We decidedly did not want to stay in South Beach because of all of the loud partying, so we found this decent hotel in midbeach instead. Outside pool and direct beach access are nice, staff was friendly (not particularly helpful, but very nice). Workout room is really a 15x10 room with three machines and a television. The location is right on the beach next to a great small boardwalk perfect for evening strolls. Rooms were completely adequate, very clean. Would have liked a fridge. Unlike other reviews, I have found no problem with internet access except for slow download speed (websites run fine).

Other issues came from less the hotel itself, but from the other guests. Despite no smoking signs everywhere, the floors (not our room) always smelled like smoke, and guests all around us were loud in the hallways all night.

Despite what seems to be a mixed review though, we were generally happy with where we stayed because of the location. The beach was less crowded and quieter, and to get to southbeach at night for night life was a breeze on any of the busses than come and go every 15 minutes (2$ for regular bus, $2.35 for limited per person) and took 10 minutes to get to Lincoln Street (the downtown hub for classier night life). Free towels to borrow, and chairs on the beach all day for 10$ a day.

For kosher travelers in particular, this is a fantastic location due to its proximity to the 41st street shopping district, in which there are half a dozen or so EXCELLENT restaurants and a small supermarket. This was some of the best kosher food I've ever had anywhere (and I live outside NYC). All a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

If you want a real workout facility by the way (Jewish or not), the JCC is a 10 minute walk away. It is only 10 dollars a day for a guest pass.
