My stay at Gansevoort South was nothing short of a spoof movie about how bad a hotel can possibly be. it is obvious the staff at the hotel have never worked in the hospitality industry, or possibly have never stayed in a hotel. The website is full of false advertising, as none of the amenities were complete during our stay: David Barton gym was a construction site and Philipe was nowhere to be seen.
Highlights listed below-
We were 'upgraded' to a quite standard looking room which turned out to be the ADA compliant where the bathroom flooded when we took a shower. We were then moved into a suite for our trouble...thanks. I asked that our sofa bed be turned down on my way out to dinner. When I returned it was definitely still a couch. 45 minutes later someone returned with one pillow and one sheet. Apparently there were no more blankets in the entire hotel, and he had to check with his supervisor to see if he could bring me one.
The following night we ordered room service and the staff showed up in cut-off jean shorts. Hardly standard uniform.
The Plunge rooftop bar doesn't check room keys to make sure the guests are the only ones ordering off the roomtabs. Sunday afternoon the Miami Dolphins showed up and the pool and turned the space into a bad rap video complete with their entourage and lady friends. We ran into the manager in the elevator and told us that Plunge is "just like St. Tropez." I am sorry, but that scene is nothing like St. Tropez.
Creme de la Creme: At brunch an inexperienced waiter failed to open a nearby table's champagne bottle by pointing away from his face. He put the bottle on the table, face over the bottle, and pulled the cork straight up. NO LIE...the cork wizzed off and popped him directly in the eyeball.
As an added bonus, the incidental charges were put on the wrong credit card, and two months later this still has not been resolved. The staff and managers will not call you back to deal with any issues, and they always seem to be in meetings.
Do yourself a favor----STAY ANYWHERE ELSE!!!
