“Musicians! A refreshing switch from Miami everyday culture of today”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

I went to the window and asked for free passes. When I visited a few years ago, there were dates posted for free concerts. I don't know if they are still available. Not a musician myself but one doesn't have to be to enjoy what was heard those fantastic nights.

The New World Symphony left its former 'home' in the Lincoln Theater around the corner on Lincoln Road when the stunning Frank Gehry-designed new campus opened in February 2011. One of the most wonderful aspects of the new building is the "Wallcast" -- live projections of concerts on the large outside wall (seen in the profile photo here) in real time - and all for FREE! So, yes, there are still free concerts, and numerous reduced-price ($2.50 and $10) mini-concerts throughout the orchestral season (September to May). Your best bet is to keep checking the nws.edu web site for a complete rundown of future free performances (which will be listed as "Wallcasts"), as well as reduced price events. Thanks for coming back and checking us out!

“Miami Magic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

Unbelievable concerts from talented musicians. Outside the grounds are worth walking through, or just sitting and enjoying the peaceful beauty. Wednesday night movies on the building is a fun event. Take snacks, dinner, and some wine and enjoy a bye gone favorite on the big outside screen. WaltC

“Outdoor spectical”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

We didn't get tickets to the event but the NWS offers an outdoor concert space for guests to sit and watch the concert live as it happens inside. Guests are encouraged to bring their own picnic items and enjoy the show.

“Great Venue, Great Music”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 18, 2012

Visited in February, 2011, and again in February, 2012. The Gehry structure is outstanding as a concert hall, very accessible, the acoustics very good, and the orchestra is phenomenal. Gil Shaham playing the Prokofiev Violin Concerto was utterly memorable. Now the bad news; some seats (and not merely the cheaper ones) have partially or even completely obstructed views, and this is nowhere disclosed on seating charts or the tickets. So to pay $90 a throw to hear great music but to look at a wall is in my mind unworthy of a fine institution. So I gigged the venue accordingly.

Thank you very much for your generous praise about Frank Gehry's magnificent New World Center building and Michael Tilson Thomas' equally magnificent music - your return visit indicates that you liked what you saw and heard both times. Yes, there are a few partially obstructed view seats in Gallery 5, a small triangular-shaped seating gallery on the north side of the concert hall. The obstruction is in the form of bannister railings (not pillars or posts, as there are none in the concert hall) and this information is proivided to patrons when they purchase tickets directly from the box office. There are five galleries and three terraces in the 756-seat Gehry-designed concert hall and we sincerely regret that you ended up in one of the very few seats with an obstruction. Please come back to listen to our music in the fall, during our 25th Anniversary Season, where we have a spectacular array of concerts lined up.

Fabulous. It has redefined the music experience in America -- and ultimately the world. Take a tour of the building -- great history and concept.
