I lingered in SoBe for one more night after my vacation due to a business meeting, and transferred to the Strand from another fantastic hotel.
The hotel itself is gorgeous. The roof and pool were stellar and just so tranquil. However, after staying at another hotel where the staff went above and beyond to be helpful, the Strand fell short of that.
First, I was given a key to a floor that didn't exist in the Main building, but the front desk failed to tell me that my room was in an adjacent one. Finally, I went back and another gentleman (very nice), led me to a room where, I opened the door--to FIVE guests already inside!
Turns out, I was led to the wrong building, and apparently... the keys work for all rooms... (which I'm praying isn't true... but somehow I managed to unlock someone else's door). When I finally found my room, I waited 45 minutes and made TWO calls down to the front desk to have my luggage brought up to me from storage.
And the next morning, I woke up at 6AM to the hideous noise of construction next door. They might as well have been jackhammering in my living room.
The staff was all really professional, but just... lacking a friendly touch (with the exception of one individual who was amazing).
