“Amazing relaxing experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2013

My sister and I stayed at Canyon Ranch for the weekend. The service was great, especially the doorman, the staff on the beach and in the Grill restaurant. We ate breakfast in the hotel every morning which was healthy but delicious. The facilities and rooms were great and the beach was also lovely and very well maintained. The only downside is the location on Collins Ave. It is too far to walk anywhere so you will need a car or a taxi if you plan on visiting other restaurants and shops.

We have been here one week and it is close to perfection. We were upgraded to an ocean front room. The views are spectacular. The room is clean and the beds are incredibly comfortable. The service has been wonderful -spa, room, beach, dining room - everywhere. Staff members know who we are and try to anticipate your needs. I have very bad food allergies and they were so careful with all my meals. They modified meals to accommodate. I had one spa treatment - muscle melt. It was unlike any massage I have ever had. They are very pricey. The spa facilities are amazing and you can use anytime without any fees. Classes are quite interesting. I have been to other spas and CR classes are wonderful. Several are offered each hour from 8 am until 7 pm. The instructor are very well educated and helpful working to make adjustments for participants to ensure they are doing the workout correctly.

If you spend some time talking to the staff from all over the world, you learn quickly that CR is a very good company. They treat employees really well. Staff get benefits (medical, dental, 401k, education, and free healthy meals, etc.). I believe when you treat employees with dignity and respect, they work hard for you. This work ethic permeates CR.

I am puzzled by some of the negative reviews. Is everything always perfect....probably not..however so much is and the staff is so competent and kind..who could ask for more?

My friend and I stayed at the Canyon Ranch from April 1-5. Although we had a great time together, the hotel disappointed us on many levels. From the moment of arrival there were several missed opportunities. At the check-in table there was a canister of iced tea and I was not offered a drink, but after checking in had to request a glass myself. Most hotels of this supposed calibre would greet guests with a cold drink and towel as soon as they arrive. The check-in process was uninformative and there was no offer of a tour or escort to my room.

The rooms, although large, were cavernous and cold. They would do better to cut the rooms in half and reduce room fees. The kitchen was ill equipped to prepare anything substantial. The bathroom was very large but the sliding door to the toilet was broken and did not close all the way - thank goodness my friend and I are close or it would have been embarrassing to have that lack of privacy.

The hotel itself was pretty but again, given the setting, the pool areas should have been more lush with vegetation and it would have been great to have eating options in all of the outdoor areas. The outdoor option at the beach was almost impossible as there was never anyone around to take our order or set up chairs. I probably set up my own lounge chairs more times than not at the pool and beach areas. The food overall was very good and it was fantastic to have healthy calorie conscious options.

The range and level of the classes was good and we really enjoyed that part of the stay. We took full advantage and did 3 classes a day on most days. Meredith was one of our favourite instructors - take her classes for an amazing workout! I found the spa facility a little disappointing. For the amount of money you are charged, you expect something exceptional and although there were some cool options like the rainforest shower and igloo, the entire experience could be done in 30 minutes. They really should have provided more seating space (3 loungers only) and magazines for guests to read so you could enjoy the spa for a greater length of time.

We ended up extending our visit by a night (not because we loved the hotel, but more that we didn't have the energy to move somewhere else for a night). According to the front desk there was only one room left and they relegated us to the 2nd floor right across from the elevator. It was literally the worst room option in the hotel. Given that guests are not assigned rooms until they check-in I find it unlikely that there were no other options for existing guests ready to move first thing in the morning. Crazy that we were paying $600 a night for that.

My last day there was a Friday and the hotel began to fill up more and I noticed a dramatic change in the effort of the staff. Is it possible that they leave week day guests to fend for themselves and only cater to weekend guests? Very inconsistent. Even though the effort of the staff changed, the fact that the staff was generally inexperienced and unseasoned remained. The Canyon Ranch should invest more in their staff if they expect to be at the level of a Fairmont or other of that calibre.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts about your recent stay. I appreciate your positive comments relating to your experience with our quality of food and fitness activities as well as your feedback on areas for improvement. Management is currently looking into your concerns relating to Check-in and pool service. Regarding the allocation of the suite for your stay extension and as mentioned, we were fully committed for the coming week end and unfortunately didn’t have any flexibility since all other rooms in your category were already booked and occupied. I would also like to reassure you that we thrive to provide the best service to all guests week days and week ends and hope to create memorable experiences to all our guests who chose Canyon Ranch Hotel & Spa in Miami Beach.
I hope that during your next visit to Miami we will have the opportunity to exceed your expectations.

We recently held a retreat for 22 people at Canyon Ranch Miami Beach – this was a consultant and board retreat for an international organization. As year-round residents of the Canyon Ranch property we are intimately familiar with the workings of the entire complex. In addition, we have a dozen or so events there over the past 15 months.

We know Canyon Ranch very well. It is a beautiful and elegant resort. The complaints posted here about price don’t take into account the enormous number of ancillary benefits in staying at the property, which include full use of the spa, 100’s of classes and exercise groups and lectures, four pools, a full gym, a wonderful private beach, an elegant and delicious array of restaurants and the Carillion Lounge and Canyon Ranch Grill itself and many others. The hotel is a great pleasure for families with small children, adult guests and business groups, all of whom mingle together without problems during the year.

Canyon Ranch food is specifically tailored to the Canyon Ranch Healthy Living Diet, and the food in the restaurant is beautifully prepared and carefully designed to provide controlled calorie intake and a balance of essential nutrients. For the most part, if it isn’t available as an organic product, it isn’t served. And it is uniformly delicious. It makes the point – you can eat healthy food and enjoy it to the utmost as well!

We know many of the staff personally and have for the more than 2 years we have been living there. They are marvellously professional and caring. It can get busy – so be patient. But the patience is well worth the effort as the results are stunningly good.

The property itself is beautiful, the rooms spacious – all suites – and very comfortable. The entire property is spotlessly clean and well maintained and well kept.

Our group retreat experience was excellent. Storms flooded a private dining room we were to use, and at the last minute changes had to be made to locations within the hotel, food carried from one building to another, and setups in the rooms shifted around. All of this was done with good grace and kindness and the serving staff and front desk staff adjusted to all the changes amazingly well.

The front desk staff, led ably by Willy Garcia, and receptionist Meron, and the concierge team, led wonderfully by Head Concierge Chauncey Sullivan with her team of Robert, Luis and Ewen, and the group sales team, led beautifully by Esperanza Arias, and the food service group, led marvellously by Giovanni Arias and Travis Paez, and the waitstaff including Diana and Nicole and Luis and Patricio and Joselina and Gloria and Sarah and many others too numerous to mention by name, all present the guest with the comfort and care needed to feel truly at home.

All this done under the watchful eye of new Hotel Managing Director Bernard Agache, who attends to details meticulously and carefully and makes it all work together. And to a person - they were successful and wonderful – and so we did – truly – feel at home. Bravo all!

This spa was one of the best we ever stayed in We felt like we were in "SPA COLLAGE" We had a choice of 100 different classes each day in beuatiful settings along with an incredible 60,000sf spa and 3 pools. I forget to say it was also ocean front. Couldn't ask for a more perfect setting.

The hotel is just amazing in terms of facilities, rooms, localization on the beach, breakfast but then in different situations you can get the best or the worst from the service and staff atitude. We passed almost 2 complete days there and it seemed that we were in 2 different hotels depending on the person from the staff we were having contact with.
The hotel and respective localization is just perfect if you are planning to be some days on the beach with the family. The beach of the hotel is great, very calm and with very nice area of beds. The service we got on the beach was also very nice. The room has a nice kitchen.
If you plan to be more close to Moulin drive and shopping this is a little bit far away, around 15-20dollar taxi drive (15 min depending on the traffic).
The rooms are spacious and beautifull decorated - we decided for a city view but I can imagine the sea view should be amazing. The bathroom is big and very nice.
Breakfast is top quality. It is not the type of hundred choices, but everything they have is of top quality.
Regarding service we were 3 couples so I assisted to many situations... Beach, door and luggage boys great. Reception we got some very nice and really helpfull, other with no pacience and replying very aggressively to your comments. Concierge, in the morning, after a request of what to do, where to go... Only said we could go to Lincoln road a shopping street (didn't even refer to Moulin drive, do you believe it?) just told us o take a taxi... It was even difficult for her to show where we were in the map (from the hotel...). It seemed that we were anoying her, so we just left. At end of the day we got a gret assistance from a young man that booked a restaurant for us, asked for a taxi, printed our boarding passes...
In the 2nd day we were given a late check-out till 2 pm which was very nice and as we had a late flight home we were told that we could use the spa shower to change ourselves. And this was the worst part of the stay. I was able to enter the spa but 2 friends of mine (also staying in the hotel) were not allowed to enter the shower area and were obliged to change in a small toilet. They did not understood what happened but as we did not have the time and had to rush to the airport, they did as told... Just 5 minutes after they entered, the husband of one was asking for her and noone knew where to find them (how was that possible if they told them to go to the toilet?!). It was a very unpleasant situation and the lady there had also a very aggressive atitude.
Overall I would classify 5 for the hotel and beach, 4 for the localization (rearding distance to centre) and 3 for service (weighting the good and bad) which at this price is unacceptable.

We have two small children (3 yo and 10 mo) and were looking for an easy, domestic, warm getaway for spring break. Wanted luxury accommodations for us (adults) and specifically went w/CR because there was a fully stocked kitchen in every room - essential w/little ones. Publix was across the street (literally a few steps) and we could buy any food we needed for us/the kids if we didn't want to do room service or go out for every meal. Local restaurants deliver too so that was convenient when we couldn't eat out because of the kids. Pools and beach were great and there is no need to ever wake up early and reserve chairs - plenty of availability and they don't let people hold chairs - was never an issue for anyone. Healthy fare offered on property was tasty and a great way to avoid the temptation of eating french fries and other junk the entire week. They deliver on all aspects - luxury accommodations (Four Seasons modern style), relaxation, good service, great spa locker room, huge gym and more group exercise classes than you can ever imagine taking (all inclusive as part of the stay).
