“Do your homework”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

I read the reviews and thought only those with negative experiences wrote in and that there had to be some good characteristics...I booked from Christmas till New Years. I specifically requested a top floor room weeks ago as I am a light sleeper. They would not honor my request - I was stuck on 4th floor (technically - the first with rooms). There is NO carpet anywhere to absorb sounds - all floors are ceramic including the hallways. You could hear everything on top of you and on both sides. The walls must be paper thin. I had also requested a microwave and never received one. On the plus side, the room was large and we had a refrigerator - which I paid extra for. I booked a superior oceanview room and could only see glimpses of the ocean over the trees. It was NOT worth the extra cost - we did have a balcony but it was shared and absolutely no privacy between balconies existed. THe room I booked directly with the hotel stated that it included a continental breakfast - I had to be firm with the front desk worker and he finally relented and gave me a couple of passes. If you don't mention that you are entitled to it, they will not give you your tickets. When our passes ran out, I talked to the manager and he graciously gave us passes. On a positive note, I loved the location. It is a quiet part of the beach. You will be charged a daily $10 resort fee and that includes your safe, pool towels (thread-bare) , and two beach chairs located directly on the beach-the umbrella will cost you an additional $10 each day if you choose to use one. I felt this was well worth the charge. Parking will cost you another additional $11 a day. The pool is not heated and the jacuzzi was a joke. It was very tiny - maybe 4-5 people could fit in it - and was barely luke warm. The continental breakfast consisted of bagels, muffins, toast, a fruit bread, corn flakes, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. You must ask for orange juice or cream cheese.

Room Tip: Since they don't honor requests, travelers don't get to choose a good room. I would try to...

“WORST HOTEL I'VE STAYED IN”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

We booked online based on location and parking. At $198 a night inc tax it should have been OK - not great but OK. It was appalling. It is tired, dated, dirty and just has a horrible feel. We booked for 2 nights and left after 1. We only stayed the first night because we arrived too late to do anything about it. I would happily have lost the money and paid to stay somewhere else if we had time. We had a 'penthouse' - what a laugh. The lift to this floor is shared with housekeeping and has no carpet and scratched walls and smells of fired food. In fact all the public areas stunk of chip fat. The room was beyond belief. Hot water tap on sink didn't work. Tiled floors that felt sticky. Beds you wanted to sleep on top of, not in! The TV was from a museum. The window frames were filthy and the windows wouldn't stay open. The glass was dirty. I could go on and on but it is easier to say DON'T STAY THERE unless you get a room for $40 and don't mind the hostel feel. This hotel is completely overpriced. We moved to the Holiday Inn a better location and paid just $20 a night more. Choice of pillows, nice toiletries, carpet!!!!, lovely staff, nice pool etc etc.

Room Tip: Go to a different hotel!

“Great (but remote) location, rundown building, unfriendly staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

This hotel is literally located on the beach, which is great for catching an early sunset. You will only have to cross about 100 meters to actually stand in the sea water. We did, and it was great.

However it is so run-down it hurts. I'm sure this used to be a great location in it's time, but now you can not help but notice how bad shape it is in. Everything is old, broken, scratched or dented. The staff was not friendly and quite pushy to have us upgrade our room (which we did not). All windows are bolted shut and our room was very moist. It was clean otherwise.
Bedding was okay, not great, but certainly not terrible.

The lobby bar/restaurant is interesting if you like classic USA cars; they have (original) booths made out of famous 50's and 60's cars. I did not order anything so I can not comment on prices or quality.

The location is remote, it is nowhere near the city center. They do offer shuttle busses I think, but we had a rental car so we did not use those. Parking is not free for hotel guests.

I would not recommend this hotel, unless you want to experience urban decay from within.

Room Tip: Ask for a room where the windows are not bolted shut if you like fresh air.

“Very cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

We stayed here for a stop over. The hotel is located on the beach and its lovely. The rooms are very outdated and old and quite grimly looking. However the bed linen was clean. The room had full amenities including air conditioning. The diner was expensive for what it was and looked like it could do with a big deep clean.

“Poor Customer Service/Bad Attitudes”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

24 people in my party arrived at the hotel at about 11 a.m. for my wedding that was to take place the following day on a cruise, realizing that we may not all be able to check in until 3 p.m. However, we learned that even though rooms were available, this hotel's policy is to not allow ANY check-ins until 3 p.m. Front desk staff don't arrive until this time, which creates a mass exodus to the front counter at 3 p.m. with a line wrapping around the corner. Who's idea was this? Bad business. Every person in that line complained. Do they realize that flights come in when they come in which means that you are going to have tired guests lounging in the lobby for hours on end? Is this what the hotel would like for their guests to see when they arrive? Three of my party complained of ants in their rooms and when we went down to the game room to enjoy a game of pool and play pinball, we were told to leave. Why? Two of my party members lost 50 cent in the pinball machine and told the manager in the area of the resturant off of the game room. She stated that the front desk is in charge of the area, so up to the front desk they went. However, the front desk stated it was the restaurant areas duty. Five minutes later, the restaurant manager came out with signs posting on every machine in the game room that they were out of order including the pool table which a few of my party were playing and stated that it would be there last game. Horribly rude! With 26 people (some were staying at other hotels and visited us for the evening), we spent a ton of money in the hotel that evening on food, games, gift shop, and the rooms and this was the treatment that we received. We did not leave, we stayed and continued to enjoy our pre-wedding day. However, the rudeness of this woman did not go unnonticed and I will not stop my complaint with this review. I am also in the process of contacting this company's corporate office. We were told by our ground transportation driver through another company, that this bad customer service is practiced because the hotel knows that cruisers have to stay at a hotel and whether they give bad customer service or not will not matter because cruisers NEED a place to lie their heads the day before cruising out. Well, I'm not going to let it slide. This hotel needs to go through some serious customer service training to fix their problems and an overhaul of hotel policy in regards to mandatory 3 p.m. check-in.

Room Tip: Do your research and find a hotel that someone else has stayed in that can give a good reference if...
