I was at the convention center, and swung by on a recommendation from a friend to try the coffee. I had a 'cafe con leche'
(coffee with milk), which was delicious. Starbucks is across the street, and while normally my favorite, it was a very nice change to have a cup at David's Cafe.
My group of 5 was in South Beach for New Year's and the Orange Bowl this year. At the recommendation of a staff member at our hotel, we tried David's on New Year's Eve. The staff was outstanding--friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food was even better and the atmosphere was perfect for New Year's.
In fact, we liked it so much that we tried it again later in the trip with similarly great results.
I would highly recommend David's to anyone in the Miami Beach area.
Went to David's Cafe II July 16th, 2006, a Sunday afternoon for lunch. The wait at the outside walk-up window has huge but we went inside where it was cooler and got a table right away, no waiting. The waiters were awesome! Very pleasant, nice and attentive. Kept bringing me water after I gulped it down every 5 seconds. The cubanos (pork, ham, cheese & mustard sandwich) were very good, which was the main reason why we went there. The prices are great, not expensive at all. The wall of famous people who have been to David's was cool to look at. Lots of neat Cuban-themed maps, advertisements and pictures adorn the walls. GREAT bar too, very wide. I could eat there every day!
David's cafe II was recommended to us by a local merchant, and we're sooo glad we listened! A nice, comfortable restaurant, just off the Lincoln Mall, David's has great Cuban food, a helpful staff, an easy to follow menu, and terrific live music. The coconut crusted snapper with mango/guava sauce was huge! And moist and tasty...excellent! The fish of the day, grilled grouper was also excellent, and a great value at $16.95. And that includes 2 side dishes. If you're a garlic fan...you must get the tostones side dish. Fried plaintains with a garlic sauce the likes of I've never had before. No room for dessert, but there was always room for the sweet mojitos. The Lincoln Mall beats South Beach, hands down, for better food at better prices, much better dining selections, and a better mannered crowd. Fantastic people watching without all the tourists. I felt like I was on the streets of Buenos Aries, not Daytona Beach (South Beach). Go!
Didn't know about this place before our trip to South Beach. It was recommended by a friend who lives there... food was pretty good and defintely affordable. For our party of 12 + drinks, was approx $400 (excellent for South Beach standards). Staff gave pretty good recommendations... will prob go back when I'm down in Miami again.
