This place is ok for a drink and to people watch. I would however avoid the food, which was overpriced and not very good. Service was also very slow. The waitress only took our order when my wife glared at her. Tables were also very close together. Best avoided as there are many other bars along Ocean Drive where the view is just as good, but cheaper.

We stopped by the News Cafe on a Sunday afternoon for appetizers and people watching. About 3 bites into my quesadilla, I noticed a huge black hair sticking out. When I brought it to the waiter's attention, he basically accused me of planting it. When I asked for a completely new one, he looked at me as if I was troubling him. He eventually apologized b/c we were openly annoyed but it was far from genuine. I guess that many waiters feel like they can act like this since tip is included everywhere in South Beach, but I think it was inexcusable. While the location was great, I will not revisit this restaurant.

We fell upon this place on our first evening after a long day flying we didn't want to wander too far from our hotel.
We ordered the seafood sampler and a pizza. The food was delicious. The portions were, in true American tradition huge! We couldn't fault the place. The staff were great. One morning when another place also on ocean drive seated us for breakfast and then ignored us for 15 minutes we got straight up and went back to the news cafe for breakfast. We were again pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the food. Recommended.

Big disappointment. Had been there a number of years ago - has the ownership or management changed. Went there with a group for breakfast and guarantee that any NY or NJ diner breakfast is many times fresher and better. The only good thing was the wait service - friendly and responsive. I had a basic eggs and bacon breakfast. The eggs were OK, but the toast, bacon and potatoes were bad. They make big deal out of the News potatoes, but they were terrible, cooked a long time before serving and cold, chewy and tasteless. Any one of the other Ocean Drive restaurants serving breakfast would have to be better. My view is that it has become a tourist trap.
